Jon Jones Obituary

Jon J. Jones

AGE: 75 • Ocean

Jon J. Jones, 75, of Ocean, formerly of Middletown, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio and lived in Middletown with his wife until moving to Manahawkin in 1992 and eventually to Ocean to live with his daughter and family in 2012. Jon had worked for Anchor Glass in Aberdeen for 30 years before retiring as a Facilities Engineer. He was a highly respected electrician by all of his peers. During his retirement, he got to enjoy crabbing, fishing and tending to his garden. He and his wife loved all the birds and wildlife that would greet them in the mornings each day. Jon enjoyed watching late-night cartoons such as Inyuasha and Naruto, he loved Country Music and all the simple things in life. He would laugh easily at himself and others. He will be missed by all who showed and support during a most difficult time. Jon was predeceased by his father, Ernest Jones and his mom and stepfather, Ivy and Robert Gauld; a brother, Charles Roderick Jones and a sister, Charlene Atkins, and a daughter, Brenda Minotti. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Byron Jones; 7 children, Rhonda and her husband Enny Aminian of Ocean, along with his grandchildren, Ryan and Chervene for whom he last resided with, Jennifer Minotti of Barnegat, Gregory Jones of California, Kristine and Don Willett of Maryland, Robert Jones of Middletown, Jacqueline Jones of Toms River and Jonathan and his wife Lisa of Little Egg Harbor and 11 other grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at the Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Hwy. 33 Neptune. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at the Ely Funeral Home followed by the entombment in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. As a father in law, and as a grandparent to my daughter, I really admired how much he grew over the years.

Our time together revealed a gentle, reflective man who I respected a great deal and will miss.

Daddy: you found a penny once + kept it for good luck, this was so YOU! We saw how deeply you loved your parents, you sister, brother and Grandpa Gauld; they meant so very much to you. You loved your many children, grandchildren and most especially your "number one" Mary. Your love for her, these past 55 years spoke of the very deep dimensions of your heart: you expressed your love so completely this way. I know these past few years have been hard for you and the past few months the toughest. Rhonda, Jackie + Johnny really sacrificed and enfolded you as you left this earth: we are all so proud of them for caregiving you this way. It's not easy. It's never easy. Your strength and grace through hard times gave us all an example to aspire to + to cherish. I know you and Brenda will rain pennies from heaven down onto all of our hearts - we know how badly you missed her. ((hugs)) to you both in heaven, hugs + pennies.

I first saw Jon when I was 8 years old and my cousin Mary married him. He wore a sailor's uniform and I was a little scared. Then he smiled at me and I felt better.
I only saw Jon a few times in my life. He made the best chili I ever had. I think my mom told me at one time, Jon never missed a day of work. Mary and Jon raised 8 children. It was amazing to see a household with 8 well behaved children and both parents smiling.
I saw him briefly recently. It was not easy for him, but to me, he left the world a better place, just because he smiled.

Father, I miss you terribly, although the past year or so has been very difficult on you and myself, I don't regret a minute, what a blessing it is to be able to help your loved one during such a difficult time. There was nothing worse than watching you struggle day to day and the fear in your eyes when plagued with such a horrible illness. I will always remember the good that you brought to our family, and I pray that St. Peters Bar is never closed, Salute!!

Love Rhonda

Father, it was my pure pleasure to have been able to care for you the past year or so, although I know you were suffering and not enjoying life to the fullest, the fact that you would sometimes wake up and say "Its going to be a good day" brought a tear to my eye, I know you were always a trooper when I had to take you to all your appointments and you were anxious, now you will never have to worry again, may you rest in peace, I love you Rhonda
