I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Barbara for over 20 years and always knew that when I called her no matter how big the problem she'd always have the solution and a good laugh for me. I've missed her since she retired and am sorry to hear that she didn't get to enjoy her retirement more. Know that the joy she brought to so many will light her way.

The news of Barbara Doherty's passing was a shock to all of us at Wiley. I've heard from so many people over the past few days expressing their thoughts about what a lovely person she was and how much she will be missed. She cared so much for Wiley, the colleagues she worked with, and the customers she helped.
Barbara interacted daily with sales people across all three business units of Wiley, and she was in close contact with publishers, editors, and marketers, too. She was the, “go to”, person for so many of us and always did it with a smile. The team of customer care professionals that she managed through the years had the same special skills that they learned from her, which distinguished Wiley in the marketplace.
One of my favorite Barbara stories was one time late in the day on a beautiful July Friday afternoon, I had to call Barbara with an emergency bookstore request. Here it was about 4:25 p.m., and we needed to get books to a store the next day for an author appearance. Barbara not only entered the order, but went back to the warehouse to get the carton of books and made sure that it was picked up by the UPS driver at 4:45 p.m. When I expressed my gratitude, she laughed and said, “Oh Dean, that's just my job and what we're supposed to do!” I know there are many salespeople across Wiley who have similar stories.
We all lost our breath earlier this week when we read the news about Barbara. She was one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, and when we think of all of the great things about Wiley, all of us would put Barbara Doherty right near the top of that list.
God Bless you Barbara. You will be so missed by all of us, but so well remembered.

This picture is from 1976. My mom Janet (Cegerenko) Frey is on the left & her best friend Barbara is on the right. Barb has been my moms rock for 40 years. She was a great woman, who loved my mom dearly and never left her side. She had a smile and laugh that was contagious.... My love for Barb stems from the love and support she always had for my mom. My mom was able to be with her at the end and I am so very thankful. Barb....you will be greatly missed by so many...May your pain be gone...and your laughter return....We love you.. Barbra, or as I liked to refer to her, my hero, was am amzing wqoman who I worked with for over 13 years. I only met her once, but worked with her mainly on the phone and she was nothing shy of supportive, caring and just plain good all the way around. I ma blessed to have known her. Wiley was a much better place with Barbara! Now, heaven will be better place with Barbara there for sure. She will be missed.

Hey Lady! That is what she called me in her email messages until 11 days ago. Barbara had such amazing strength since she told me her condition and started treatments in mid June. We kept positive in our emails that she would overcome the setback after a year retirement. Her words in the last email after spending 17 days in the hospital was its going to take time on getting back to her old self again. So sorry Barbara that with all the prayers and novena God had another plan for you. You will reunite with Jack and your family. My closing line as you always noted in your email. "Hugs and kisses to both of you. Antoinette and Robert Pisicchio
