Mary Catherine Doherty, age 91, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life defined by love, generosity, and deep devotion to her family. Loved by everyone who knew her, Mae had an extraordinary warmth and kindness that made people feel instantly at home. She grew up in Philadelphia, coming from a family of six, where strong family bonds, resilience, and care for one another were learned early and carried throughout her life. Mae was preceded in birth by a sister, Elizabeth, who passed away before Mae was born and was always held tenderly in the family's memory. A proud "Kennedy girl," Mae admired President John F. Kennedy deeply and carried that sense of hope, compassion, and civic pride with her always.
Mae was a devoted Catholic, whose faith was a steady source of strength and comfort. She was known for her angelic voice in church, lifting hearts through song and prayer, and quietly living her faith through kindness, humility, and love for others.
Mae shared a beautiful marriage of 62 years with her beloved husband, Robert P. Doherty, who predeceased her. Their life together was one of enduring love, partnership, and family, and their bond remains a shining example of commitment and grace.
She was a devoted and proud mother to her two cherished daughters, Elizabeth Almond and Maureen Tribuiani. Nothing meant more to Mae than her girls and their happiness. She was also a loving mother-in-law to James Almond and Francesco Tribuiani, whom she adored and considered her own, and who remained constant, caring presences in her life.
Mae was one of six siblings, and family was always at the center of her world. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Lauren Marie Stavola, Patrick Almond, Joseph Tribuiani, and Adriana Tribuiani. She was also blessed with three great-granddaughters, Marissa Stavola, Brynn Stavola, and Sadie Almond, who brought her endless joy and pride. Mae loved her friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who held a special place in her heart.
Mae was predeceased by her parents, Sadie and Charles Lockhart; her beloved husband, Robert P. Doherty; her brother Charles (Cassie); her sisters, Evelyn (Jimmy Finnegan), Elaine (Tedd Fillius) and Betty; and her beautiful red-haired granddaughter, Lauren Marie Stavola. She is survived by her only living sibling, Ronald Lockhart, twelve years her junior, and his wife, Jean Lockhart, who continue to keep the family legacy alive through love, remembrance, and the bonds Mae cherished so deeply.
Mae had a way of making everyone feel seen. She greeted the world with a smile and a familiar, loving "Hi, hon," to everyone she met, seeing the good in people and offering kindness freely and without hesitation.
Above all, Mae will be remembered for the way she loved-fully, selflessly, and without condition. Her legacy lives on through her family, her faith, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness. She will be forever missed and always cherished.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
