He was a father, a grandfather and a husband. He was a teacher, an artist and a friend. But for me, he will always be . . . Uncle Marty. And Uncle Marty was one of kind! Anyone fortunate enough to walk a few miles next to Marty, walked on smarter and more thoughtful. No matter the topic; be it art, sculpting, photography, landscaping, Marty looked at the world with the keen eye of a true artist and teacher. His commentary on work, life and the world was always insightful and constructive. Of course, one of Marty’s most endearing qualities was his absolutely original, dry sense of humor. Marty never missed a beat with quip or a joke, sending any listener into guffawing laughter. It was on full display at the never forgotten retirement dinner for my Dad and his teaching colleagues. Uncle Marty wasn’t simply one of the nicest people you could meet or one of the smartest or funniest. Uncle Marty was undoubtedly . . . one of the coolest. He will be sorely missed.
With respect and affection, the Davis Family sends its most sincere condolences.

I remember how nervous I was when I was hired for my very first teaching position at the Carol Goetz Middle School. Marty was always so helpful and supportive. He was a talented artist and a great man. His classroom was connected right behind mine and I remember feeling so much better that he was right there if I stumbled or needed to ask him a question. I haven’t seen Marty in a long time and learning of his passing made me very sad. I pray his family is comforted during this difficult time. May he Rest In Peace.

This is the message I sent to Marty on Sunday but he probably never read it.
“The message you left was beautiful. You mean the same to me my show brother. I took Marie for a stroller ride yesterday and told her all about you, she is nine months old now and this is what I told her:
How kind you are,
How caring you are,
How much you loved Rita,
What a gentle man you are,
And how thoughtful you are!
Everyone needs a Marty in their life.
I love you and will miss you.
You left a legacy with you beautiful family, your friends and anyone you touched.
Thank you for being my wonderful friend I will always wear that Santa Hat you bought for me.

Mr. Silverman was a great soul who infused his love of art and life into others. I looked forward to his class. He inspired me to stretch my imagination and build my confidence. I can’t imagine how many lives he touched. In fact, his impact will continue even after he is gone. For example, art is such an important part of my life that it led to my daughter to attend college in order to become a HS Art teacher. My condolences to the family for losing such a great man.

Mr. Silverman was my teacher in 2000. I'm 32 years old now and a teacher myself and paint part time. I'll never forget his fun loving nature and the way his class was an escape from all worries. I hope that I am loved the way Mr. Silverman was and make a difference the way that he did.

Mr. Silverman was my art teacher throughout middle school. He was my FAVORITE! He was funny and always happy. His art room was COVERED in cows. Cow patters, cow pictures, cow statues. As I am an artist myself, I never forgot about Mr. Silverman and what he taught me all those years ago. He will be missed! My condolences to his family.
