Joseph Passalaqua Obituary
86, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on February 3, 2016. Jay was born on September 1, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dixieland was in his blood. He loved the town, the music, and the food; oyster po'boys especially. He would never hesitate to correct you on the pronunciation of his hometown (New Or-luns), and rooted for the Saints and LSU in good times and bad. After studying electrical engineering at LSU, Jay navigated hurricane tracking planes in the Caribbean for the Air Force, worked at NASA's X-15 project in California (carpooling with Neil Armstrong), and raced hydroplanes. Jay's work as an electrical engineer with GE brought him to Phoenix, took him to Paris, and back to Phoenix where he remained. Through his love of tennis, he met Judy, his beloved wife of over 24 years. An avid boater, he was dedicated to the Coast Guard Auxiliary and rescued many a stranded boaters on Saguaro Lake. Jay loved being with his family and friends, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was known for his sweet tooth; having dessert after every meal and "sneaking" chocolate chip cookies all times of the day and night. Jay is survived by his wife Judy; his children Lisa, Craig, Patty, Susie, and Jeff; his sons and daughters in law Tori, Lee, Paul, and Kim; and his grandchildren Erik, Brandi, Kawika, Makanani, Jack, Carl, Sam, Alden, and Michael. A celebration of his life will be held February 27th at 4 PM, at Orangewood Presbyterian Church, 7321 N. 10th St. Phoenix, AZ 85020. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Jay to either Orangewood Presbyterian Church, the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/donate, or a charity of your choice.
