Ted Gettinger Obituary

Gettinger, Ted, Jr.
Ted Gettinger Jr. was a beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He passed away peacefully on July 20th after a short but painless struggle with esophageal cancer. Ted was born on April 8, 1930, in Los Angeles to Flossie Gettinger and Ted Gettinger Sr. He graduated from Dorsey High School in 1948, and a year later joined the Marine Corps. Ted served with the 1st Marine Division in Korea, both at Inchon and during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. After his discharge from the Marines in February of 1952, he attended USC where he received a Bachelor's, Master's, and eventually a Ph.D in Industrial Psychology. He married his wife of 52-and-a-half years and the love of his life June Tiffany on February 1st, 1958. They moved to Northridge, California and had two children, Ted III and Susan. Ted worked for Systems Development Corporation, Honeywell, and IBM, until he eventually settled at Hughes Helicopters in 1978. He continued to work for the company as Hughes became McDonnell Douglas and later Boeing, retiring in 1997 as a Senior Scientist. After retirement, he loved travel and cooking for his wife, as well as loving to read philosophy and political theory. Ted will be remembered for his passion for education and self-betterment, his devotion to his wife June, and his enjoyment of everything life has to offer. Ted is survived by his beloved wife June, his son Ted III, and his five grandchildren: Kate, Cassie, and Rachel Gettinger, and Scott and Tiffany Sunell.

June,
You may not remember me but you and your husband made an impression on me. I am a nurse at Desert in Endoscopy and and had the opportunity to see and talk to you several times and to care for your husband in the recovery room at least twice. Your love and devotion for each other was very evident and the fact that you maintained a sense of humor and grace under very difficult circumstances was admirable. I enjoyed you both and am thinking of you at this difficult time.

You may remember me as the nurse that kept telling you how much you looked like that British actress (but prettier!) and you were very supportive to me when one of the other nurses was "picking" on me. I was so impressed that at a stressful time, you reached out to help me. Not the usual thing in nursing. All the best

Ted and I met at 40Plus in the late 1990's. We shared many a laugh, discussed and cused various political positions and just enjoyed each others company. He was a friend and will be missed. Ted McDaniel..Laguna Woods, CA

I just do not have the words to describe what Dr. Gettinger means to me. He was a mentor, work team mate and very good friend. His always positive support to those around him was his great strength. On many occasions, Dr. Ted as I called him, helped me overcome difficulties at work and in life. He always looked at things objectively and then helped shine the light on the positive opportunities around us. We are all much better for him being on this earth. My family extends our prayers and support for the Gettinger family at this time.
