Elias Martinez Obituary

Elias Perez Martinez 1924-2005. With a profound faith in God and an
eternal life with those he loved, Elias P. Martinez died on February 19, 2005 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He passed in the loving company of his son and grandchildren. Elias was reunited with his wife of fifty-seven years, Elodia and his eldest son Elias Jr. Their loss was never forgotten; a source of love that was always present and comforting in all of his endeavors. Elias' artistic work was recognized by many for his unique designs and quality. His career as a silver and goldsmith spanned over sixty years. He first learned his art in
Guadalajara, Mexico which he continued in Nogales, Tucson, Estes Park and Scottsdale. Over the past forty-six years, Elias was a respected fixture in Old Town Scottsdale, designing and creating his own style of silver, gold and turquoise jewelry.
The "By Elias" trademark has long been recognized as a stamp of originality. Elias and Elodia were an inseparable team as owners of Jewelry by Elias, which they operated together in Old Town Scottsdale from 1959 to 2003. After the loss of Elodia in December 2003, Elias continued to work in his store making jewelry. Elias is survived by one son, Richard, his daughter in-law, Diane Quevedo, his four grand-children, Selina Q. Martinez, Rene F. Martinez, Elias R. Martinez and Cathy Ann Martinez, their two spouses, Laura Canales Martinez (Elias) and Armando Pacho
(Cathy), and by Adrian E. Martinez, his great-grandson. Survivors also include two brothers Jose and Alfonso Martinez, two sisters, Amparo Aguilar and Maria Luisa Bachelier and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Elias will be missed by many friends, colleagues and loved ones. His smile and positive spirit always made those around him feel better. His kind and generous disposition through out his eighty years of life helped many in their time of need. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary at St. Patrick's Catholic Community, 1052 North 84th Street, Scottsdale. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, February 23rd at 1:00 p.m., St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Father Eric Tellez, Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 North 48th Street, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association, St. Mary's Food Bank or St. Patrick's Catholic Community are requested. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale.

Tio Elias,

This is not good by, but until we meet again. Usted y mi tia Elodia are very dear to me. I have the upmost respect for you both as well as Eliasito y Richard. I have many fond memories of you and your family. The holidays especially when we would get together and enjoy the season. As my sister Beverly said I also enjoyed very much when our mother take us to visit your shop and look at the beautiful art you created there.

I am saddened to know that on my next visit to Az. I will not be able to visit with you.

In closing I would like to send my condolences to you Richard, and hope to see you soon.

Mis Padrinos de matrimonio,

Elias & Elodia Martinez.

My Tio Elias, a loving, caring uncle and human being. You will always be in our hearts and prayers. I will always remember all the fun times we had going to Dodger games and talking about baseball. You were always there with words of encouragement and support when I needed them the most. We will miss you. But I know you are happy to be re-united with Tia Elodia and Elias jr. Our heart and prayers go out to Richard and Family. We Love you.

Some of my fondest memories include my Tio Elias. Holidays and family gatherings, christenings, going to the shop to visit and gaze at his beautiful creations, or just going to lunch. His beautiful spirit was displayed in his ever present smile. I love him and I will miss him dearly. Beverly Burnett
