William Muller-Lux Obituary

William Muller-Lux The artist William Muller-Lux was born in Bohemia in 1911; he died on January 30, 2007, surrounded by the mountains and valleys of Arizona, the country he loved. Muller-Lux, affectionately called "Willy," studied at the Academy of Fine Art, Prague, and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and maintained studios in Phoenix and Payson for many years; from there he traveled in the Southwest, Mexico, and Europe in search of his subjects. Willy's love of nature and his great sense of humor shine through his work-he equally enjoyed painting people, especially children, landscapes, animals, and flowers, in a range of media from oils to Chinese ink. His line and brush drawings of the female nude have been collected in the volume Muller-Lux Drawings: 1958-1963, published in 1988; his web site, http://members.cox.net/elawrence9/sites/willies/index.html, shows him in his Payson studio, putting a finishing stroke on a Japanese-brush drawing. Willy's life was his art: during his lifetime, critics called him "one of the few living Old Masters," and his paintings have brought joy to people all over the world-he will live on forever in his art.
