I first met Mr. Hokit in 1971 when I started taking classes in the Agriculture Department at Bakersfield College. While in the Ag. Department, Mr. Hokit helped me get a job as a Student Worker. I worked part time with Mr. Hokit and the others for a few years. When the money ran out one season, Mr. Hokit suggested I go to the Learning Center to apply for a Teaching Assistant job. I went to Dr. Claire Larsen’s office; he was on the phone. Dr. Claire motioned me into the office and hung up. He told me he was just talking to Lloyd Hokit who had said I was a pretty good worker, but to get my attention, just hit me in the head with a 2 x 4. That was Mr. Hokit’s introduction of me to my new boss. He was a kind, caring, and concerned gentleman who knew so many things and understood people. He must have seen something in me because I have been employed in the Learning Center for about 32 years, now. Thank you Mr. Hokit for all you did for me.

PAT:
Sorry to hear of Lloyds passing. He will be remembered by many people. He was the best Sunday School teacher I have ever had.
He will be missed but we will be with him soon.

It was my fortune to meet Mr. Hokit in 1961 as my freshman Ag teacher. He was always there for his students, day or night. He could have written the book NO STUDENT LEFT BEHIND. Boy we were lucky to have a teacher like MR. Hokit. Pat Thank You for Shearing. The judging practices, the contests, all the FFA activities, the train rides to the State Fair, the fishing trips to the Sierras. The comradely. Here we are 45 yrs later and I can recall those wonderful memories like they were yesterday. Why? Because Mr. Hokit was so genuine and caring. Over the years I have always looked forward to seeing Mr. Hokit, because I knew I would always walk away a wiser man.

My son had "Farmer" Hokit in several classes at VOCS. He was always very encouraging and had a kind word to say. My son (8 yrs) said he will always remember "Farmer" Hokit when he sees oak trees, because they planted a lot of oak trees in class. Last week he had found some acorns, and he planted them in our yard, he said he was thinking of "Farmer" Hokit as he did it. Mr. Hokit was a strong, gentle oak tree, and we are very blessed to have known him. We look forward to the day we will meet him again in the Lord's kingdom.

Well do I remember serving with Lloyd at West High School. He was my brother in the Lord. Because he had trusted Christ as his savior, I know for certain that he has been promoted to a spot in Heaven. Bob Nestor, 309 Crepe Myrtle Way, Greer, SC 29650, [email protected]

Mr. Hokit I first met you at my daughter’s graduation from Valley Oaks Charter School in June 2005. We were all at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield. You gave a rendition of The Master’s Hand and made everyone laugh and then cry at the end. It was performance worthy of nothing less than an Academy Award or maybe even an Oscar. Only at the end of the ceremony did I learn you had just came from chemotherapy treatment minutes before you spoke. Who knew? If I didn’t stop to say thank you and shake your hand for an awesome job I would have never known. I do know this much you are in the presence of the true master now. God bless you and your family.

I have always known Lloyd as Mr. Hokit and addressed his that way when ever I saw him. He seems to deserve the respect of a Mister, though I was at ease to call him by Lloyd when he asked me to. I first met Mr. Hokit in 1966 at West High School, he was my FFA advisor and Ag teacher from 1966~1967. Throughout my school years I have never known a more supportive teacher. Not only was he interested in my Ag projects but also how I was doing in sports and school in general. Mr. Hokit was a no non-sense type of guy and would always tell you the way it is. That was one of the real things I liked about him. His smile and the way he would just look at you would speak volumes for him. What a guy, what a friend in my later years. Not only did he touch my heart and mind, but so many others. Mr. Hokit you will be indeed missed. I would not be surprised to see that our Lord will have him tending his garden when I too go to meet with our Lord.. Thanks Mr. Hokit for everything!
