Bruce L. Weinel, 84, passed away Monday, July 31st, 2023. Bruce was the beloved husband of the late Betty J. Weinel for 63 years; loving father of Wes (Marsha) and Bill (Debbie) Weinel, Donna (Jeff) Surface, Cathy (Michael) Ward, and Beverly (Jerry) Hornsby; cherished grandfather of Westley, Catherine, Will, Jon, Samantha, Steven, Travis, Shelby, Jerad, Jonah, Sydny, and the late Emily; treasured great-grandfather of 20 great-grandchildren; and dear brother of Nancy (Joe) Mallin and the late Archie (Faye) Weinel. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife and brother, Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Louis Weinel, mother, Edna Weinel-Hill, and stepfather, Albert Hill.
Bruce was an exceptional outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish, and spend time in his garden. He was content being outside, even finding time to hunt mushrooms and pick berries. Bruce worked diligently for 37 years at Union Camp Corporation and spent an additional 15 years at Sycamore Schools before retirement. He was a sports fan, following teams like the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals (even when it was challenging). Bruce could often be found alongside Betty attending the grandkids’ many sporting events cheering and supporting from the sidelines. Though he will be missed deeply, there is comfort in knowing that Bruce and Betty are reunited, cheering on from above.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, August 5th, from 10:00am until time of Memorial Service at 11:00am, both at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 10211 Plainfield Rd. (45241). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. www.mrfh.com
