Charles H. “Carl” Wernery, of Reading, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2024 at the age of 93. He was born September 3rd, 1930 at Maple Knoll in Glendale, Ohio to the late Joseph and Edna (Ulland) Wernery. Devoted husband of 67 years to his beloved late wife, Faye M. (Bronner) Wernery. Carl was also preceded in death by his siblings; James (the late Marianne) Wernery and Jude “Chick” (the late Jane) Wernery.
Father of Charles (Darlyne) Wernery Jr., Elizabeth (Kenneth) Broomall, and the late Timothy (Beth) Wernery; grandfather of Charles Wernery III, Christina (Brian) Grote, Megan (Adam) Tieger, Mary Kathryn, and Daniel Broomall; great grandfather of Holly Ann Tieger; and many other family members and dear friends.
Carl graduated from Roger Bacon High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and maintained his strong patriotism throughout his lifetime as an active member and Commander of the VFW Post 5711. After his military service, Carl attended the University of Cincinnati. For over 30 years, he worked for the Jefferson Smurfit Paper Mill Company. After his retirement, his deep love for golf led him to 17 joy-filled years as the greens keeper at Sharon Woods Golf Course, Hamilton County Park District.
Faith and family were top priorities and Carl dedicated his life to both. He and his wife, Faye, were lifetime parishioners of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Our Lady of the Valley). Carl also served his beloved community as Treasurer to the City of Reading. Everyone who knew Carl will greatly miss his fun-loving presence.
Visitation will be 4-7 pm on Sunday, July 14th at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 10211 Plainfield Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 am on Monday, July 15th at Our Lady of the Valley (Sts. Peter and Paul), 330 West Vine St, Cincinnati, OH 45215 with Fr. David Fay as celebrant.
