I, Elizabeth Locke, known to most as Bets, died on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the age of 87. My life in Cincinnati began at the University of Cincinnati where I graduated in 1960 with a nursing degree. I was blessed to spend 56 years with my buddy and best friend, husband Dan before his death in 2017. God blessed us with four awesome children, along with their spouses. Katherine and John, Steve and Jennifer, Kevin and Colleen, and Bill and Lisa. Life was even better with twelve grandchildren to enjoy, Ashley, Zach, Hannah, KC, Maddie, Ben, J.D., Elizabeth, Julia, Andrew, John Thomas, and Erin. As a stay-at-home Mom, I was on a volunteer Title IX committee; revived the Blue Ash Women’s Club; wrote a weekly food column for the Sycamore Messenger; won the grand prize for the Cincinnati Enquirer’s annual cooking contest; and created a fun, happy, successful Luncheon Restaurant at the Blue Ash Golf Course. My Blue Ash career continued at the Recreation Center, where I catered for group rentals, provided Catering needs for national entertainers, and opened a Café. The house that we built in the woods in 1971, lovingly called The Ghetto, was a happy place; with Cooper Creek in the front yard, it was a source of fun for all 22 of us. I have fond memories of Mr. Dan’s and my travels that are reflected on the walls, where so many of his photographs hang. May the mezzanine kids have fond memories of my dittys. May all of you have fond memories of our Holiday gatherings in The Ghetto, the Evendale pool, Queen City Racquet Club, G.E. Days at Kings Island, the ladder to the Undercroft, tube biscuit donuts, double chocolate delights, Gunk’s nachos, butter cookies, hot mushroom cabbage, and Gunk’s holiday broccoli.
From time to time, please all gather and have a Works pizza from Donato’s and maybe a Skyline Chili in honor of PaPa and Lil’ Gunk.
To all of you, may all of your days be blessed; my final prayer for you is that each of your names be written in the Book of Life.
Love, hugs and kisses.
