Gladys Moore ShellJanuary 18, 1969 – June 19, 2025

Gladys Moore Shell, a radiant and elegant soul whose voice lifted countless praises to the Lord, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Born on January 18, 1969, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, Gladys was the beloved daughter of the late Aubria Moore, Jr. and the late Eva Parham Moore. She graced this world with her gentle strength, unwavering faith, and an enduring spirit that touched the lives of many.

A proud graduate of Dinwiddie High School’s Class of 1987, Gladys went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from Virginia State University in 1991. Guided by a deep passion for nurturing young minds, she devoted the early part of her career to teaching elementary school. Her patience, warmth, and love for children left a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of so many.

Gladys confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Virginia. Her life was rooted in faith and filled with purpose. She was known for her grace, kindness, and a joyful spirit that could light up any room. Her unwavering devotion to her family and her Lord was evident in everything she did.

Gladys was the epitome of class and quiet strength. She found beauty in the simple joys of life — a soft ocean breeze, the sound of waves gently rolling onto the shore, and the peacefulness of watching the beach. She cherished traveling, especially with her children, creating memories full of laughter, love, and togetherness. These were the moments she held closest to her heart.

And when it came to playing cards—let’s just say, if Gladys was shuffling the deck, you knew she wasn’t playing around! With a quick smile and a sharper hand, she never let anyone forget that a little fun and friendly competition was good for the soul.

Her life was a beautiful testament to the power of faith, family, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her light will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.She is survived by her husband, Rodney Shell; her cherished children, Kamiran Shell of Norfolk, Virginia, and Rodney Shell II (Yoseline) of Houston, Texas; and her grandson, Kai Shell. Her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will continue to shine brightly through them.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Aubria and Eva Parham Moore; her brother, Alphonso Moore; her brother in love David Jones Sr. and her sister-in-love, Zeanette Jarrell. She is lovingly remembered by four devoted siblings: Furman Moore (Damita) of Copperas Cove, TX; Gloria Jones of Macon, GA; Audrey Moore Jackson of Carson, VA; and Maxine Jones (Vandy III) of Dewitt, VA. Her bonus sisters Sharon Moore Raigns ,Nadine Starks, Diane Hicks and Deborah Chambliss. Also holding her close in their hearts are her father- and mother-in-law, William and Nancy Shell of McKenney, VA; her brother-in-law, Norman Shell (Anita) of Petersburg, VA; and her sister-in-law, Susan Williams (Thomas) of Fredericksburg, VA. Cherished always by her aunts, Helen Graham and Alice Mason; her uncle, Stanley Parham (Eva); and her uncle-in-law, Alphonzo Mason—all of Virginia—Gladys leaves behind a treasured circle of nieces and nephews, each uniquely special to her, along with many devoted lifelong friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

To know Gladys was to be in the presence of love — a love that was selfless, pure, and steadfast. She carried herself with dignity and grace, always extending a warm hand and a kind word to those around her. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice in knowing that her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched so deeply.

Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will remain forever etched in our hearts.
