To the family of Joe Schaffernoth,
I have lived in Jacksonville, FL my entire life. Growing up in the sixties, my dad would take me to watch the Jacksonville Suns play. I was fascinatted with the double pump action of Joe and his famous fastball. Joe was a true hero of mine. I was curious as to what I would find on the internet and discovered that I just missed his funeral by one month. I was touched that Joe had been married for over 50 years. My condolences to the entire family. Joe lived a full and fruitful life.
God bless.

My most sincere sympathy to the Schaffernoth family........I have fond memories of having Mr. Schaffernoth's baseball cards in my collection and seeing him pitch on TV, particularly when he was with Cleveland against the Yankees, as I grew up in Cranford, NJ........I really did not realize that all this time, he was nearby in Berkeley Heights, also in Union County......May he rest in peace.........

I only got to spend a few hours with Joe, but it didn't take me long to figure out that I really, really liked him. I'll never forget the knowledge and kind words he imparted on me during our chat after dinner. He was a humble, brave, and loving man, and I feel lucky for having known him, even for a short time. My deepest condolences to his wife and family during this difficult time.
