Malissa's Obituary

Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God"

And so it goes on the afternoon of December 11, 2024 our hearts were saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved sister Malissa Candice Moody, more affectionately known as Candy. She was the oldest daughter of the late Mary Moore Moody and the late Russell S. Moody Sr. She was a 1982 graduate of Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield County.

Candy was an avid music lover, especially old school R&B. She also played the electric guitar in her early teens. She loved to color, do cross word puzzles, but her favorite thing of all was to sew. She loved creating fashionable outfits for herself.

In the middle of her teenage years while still in high school she fell ill. And because of the severity of that illness, she became disabled. Despite her disability, she was able to live an actively engaged life sewing and shopping and she adored spending time with family. She especially enjoyed time with friends and acquaintances at her Day Support Center. Candy was inherently a giving, caring and fiercely protective person when it came to people she loved. It was also a natural disposition of her to share anything she had with those around her. Candy was also very athletic coupled with a strong competitive spirit.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her committed younger sister and guardian, Mona Moody-Watson (of Petersburg, Va.), her faithful, older brother Romney S. Moody (of Woodstock, Ga), nieces Charissa C. Simon and Sarina C. Watson (of Chesterfield, Va.), nephew Mongan L. Watson (of Richmond, Va), Aunties: Norma Winfield ((Gordon) of Chesterfield, Va.), Elaine M Williams (of Chester, Va.), Shirley M Young ((Fredrick) of Millers Tavern, Va.), Ellen Njia ((Yaya) of Stony Creek, Va.), Mary Prather ((Donald of Smyrna, DE). Roxanna M Wynn ((John – deceased) of Camden, NJ); Maria Thompkins, Houston, TX, Edna Lowery, Joanne Parham (Peter) of Chester, Va, Mary Peebles of Raliegh, NC, Katie Gray of Newburgh, NY, Erma Mabry (Willie) of Petersburg, VA; Uncles: Marvin Hobbs (of Prince George, Va) and William Moore (of Jarratt, Va.)

She was predeceased by her parents, eldest brother Russell S. Moody, Jr. (Rusty), maternal grandparents James O. and Jessie H. Moore; paternal grandparents Landon and Marie T. Moody; and devoted aunties, Ardell M. Jones, Linda M Threat, and Barbraline M. Winfield, Gladys Robinson, Virginia Lee Moody, uncles Willie MacArthur Moore and James "Jerry" Moore, John Ernest Moody, James Henry Moody, Joseph Moody, Eugene Moody, and Arthur Moody.

She also leaves a host of cousins, relatives and cherished friends who were essential to her life.

My Brother and I extend our gratitude to our auntie Norma Winfield for all her loving support, and we are eternally thankful to the PAC Team, the Sycamore Center, the staff at Victory Assistance Living, the staff on the H.U.F Center and the staff at Azzy Manner – “we are forever grateful!”
