Robert's Obituary

Robert J. Moran Sr., 74 of Sutton, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital with his family by his side.

Robert was born and raised in Worcester where he was a graduate of Commerce High School and one of two sons to the late Hugh J. and Ethel (Domiano) Moran, Sr. He began a career as an auto mechanic for Tex's Service Station and was the top technician for Gallo Oldsmobile for many years. Robert later opened Moran’s Auto Repair on Shrewsbury Street before moving to Belmont Street. After 43 years, Robert retired in 2008 and his son carries on his legacy as Moran and Son's Auto Repair.

Robert had a love and passion for antique cars and was a very accomplished car building specialist. He went to many car shows and enjoyed motorcycle rides especially in Daytona Beach. Robert loved commercial fishing on Cape Cod waters and summers spent there with family and friends. Robert also enjoyed snowmobiling in his earlier years.

Robert's wife of 41 years, Sally J. (Harrington) Moran passed away on November 3, 2004. He is survived by his longtime companion of 12 years, Denise DiBenedetto of Sutton; his son Robert J. Moran, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Sutton; his daughter Deborah A. Bassett and her husband John of South Grafton; two grandchildren, Christopher and Alexander; many nieces and nephews. Robert was recently predeceased by his brother, Hugh J. Moran, Jr. who passed on July 25, 2017.

Services for Robert will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 9:30 am at St. Mark’s Church, Boston Rd, Sutton.  Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery, Sutton.  Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, August 4th from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters, 1200 Hosford Street, Suite 101, Hudson, WI. 54016-9316.
