Ruth "Babe Ruth" Burney, 80, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Midlothian, Virginia. Born on April 16, 1945, in McKenney, Virginia, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, strong faith and unwavering devotion to her family. Ruth was the beloved wife of Clarence E. Burney, with whom she shared a remarkable 60-year marriage. Together they built a strong and loving family that includes their two children: Tressy Lewis (Wilbert) and C. Sherrod Burney (Kisha). Ruth found immense joy in her role as “Nana” to her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were truly the lights of her life. She also had many children of the heart. A proud student of St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, Ruth valued education and carried the lessons of her academic journey and Christian faith throughout her life. Her charisma and warmth made her a cherished presence in every room she entered. Known for her larger than-life personality and deep affection for those around her, Ruth served as the heart of her family—their matriarch and guiding light.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Clay and Ruth Lena Tucker, as well as her brothers James Tucker, Ernest Tucker, Herman Tucker, Theodore Tucker, John Tucker, and Earl Tucker.
