Not sure what to say?

I met Steve when I was last in Ohio in the famous basement of Jerry Voegele for a little family reunion. I remember his smile and kindness, only wish I could have gotten to know him better. Prays for Sheila, his family and friends. RIP Steve

The world's going to miss one more super optimistic person in this world. Love ya man!

So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. He was a great man and friend that will be missed. Loved his great sense of humor and he’d always offered a smile and a wave. Rest easy my friend.

Although I never had the opportunity to meet Steve, I feel that I have met his best qualities as displayed in his daughter, Emily. A truer friend was never found, with constant love and helpfulness to all, acquaintances or strangers. From reading the notes that people have left for Steve, I believe that he and his wife have these same qualities and I am so grateful that they embraced their daughter to carry those beautiful qualities into the next generation. My deepest sympathies to all in...

Very Friendly person He will be missed

I was privileged to work with Steve in Chemical Development at William S. Merrell and its successor companies for many years. He was always ready to help anyone in need and did excellent work at all times. I am very sorry for your loss. May God rest his soul.

Obituary

Steve's Obituary

Steven C. Lehrter, passed away peacefully at his home in Reading, Ohio following his courageous battle with cancer throughout which he maintained his eternally optimistic and lighthearted spirit. He was born October 31, 1952 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late James and Ruth (Feldhaus) Lehrter. Steve was devoted to his loving wife of 47 years, Sheila (Voegele) Lehrter; children, Emily Verwest and Nick Lehrter; siblings, Jim (Mary) Lehrter, Cathy (Mike) Voegele, Dave (Margie) Lehrter, Terry (John) Korfhagan, Ron (Cheri) Lehrter, Phil (Mary) Lehrter, Don (Debbie) Lehrter, Ann (Tom) Madsen, and Tim Lehrter; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Steve and Sheila lived for 12 years in Dillsboro, Indiana before returning to Reading where their family has remained for 31 years. Steve was strong in his Catholic faith; praying the Rosary everyday and attending daily Mass at Our Lady of the Valley Parish (formerly Sts. Peter and Paul). He was a hard worker who was blessed with mechanical talents and a creative mind. Steve retired as a pipefitter in April 2021 and was able to travel with his family to Miami Beach and Puerto Rico.

Over the years, Steve always enjoyed trips with his family and hiking trails. He was affectionately known as the “Singing Bush” because he loved music and would often break out into a song that would be triggered by a random phrase heard that reminded him of a random lyric he retained in his sharp mind. His favorites hits were from The Beatles and Johnny Cash. Steve cherished a good meal with family and his many dear friends who will all miss his comical humor and bright spirit!

Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 10211 Plainfield Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 22nd at Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Reading with concelebrants Fr. Alex McCullough and Fr. Bob Ross. Final resting place will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery. Online condolences may be shared at www.MRFH.com
