Walter was a good husband to my sister Arlene, as well as being kind to both of our daughters. You will be missed.

Walter's Obituary

Walter Franklin Wilkerson, age 83, of Highland,Michigan (formerly of Maineville Ohio), passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was born on July 12, 1942, in Kopperston, West Virginia, to his beloved parents, Harold and Edith (Miller) Wilkerson. During his childhood, his family lived in several states, including Virginia and Kentucky, before eventually settling in Ohio. Walter graduated from Garfield High School Hamilton,Ohio, in 1960.

After graduation, while living in Ohio, Walter met the love of his life, Arlene Mathis, under memorable circumstances—a small fender bender that would ultimately lead to a lifetime of love. Their chance meeting quickly blossomed into a beautiful relationship, and they were married in 1961 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together they built a loving home and raised four children.

Walter devoted more than 40 years of his life to working as a semi-truck driver, a career he truly loved. Outside of work, he enjoyed camping in his cherished trailer. He also had a special place in his heart for animals and birds, often feeding the many small creatures that visited his yard.

Walter will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and deep devotion to his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Walter was the treasured husband of the late Arlene Wilkerson; beloved father of, the late Lisa Harper, Lori (Erik) Nimmo, Jennifer (Recco) Lamb, Rob (Michelle) Wilkerson .He was the loving Papaw of 10 grandchildren: Joshua, Jesse (Whitney), and Morgan (Christian Palmer) Nimmo; Heather (James Rogers), Dustin (Kira), and Austin (Ciara) Lamb; Tyler and Andrew Wilkerson; Haley (John) Maas; and Shelby Moore. He was the proud Great-Papaw of Joanna, Edith, Mabel, Alivia, Waylon, Bobby, and Grace.

Walter was also the cherished brother of Bobby (Alene) Wilkerson, Joyce (the late David) Floyd, and the late Dan (the late Joyce) Wilkerson, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held by the family to honor Walter’s life and memory on; Friday March 20th, 2026 beginning at 3:00pm at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 10209 Plainfield Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45241. Family and guests may park their vehicle behind funeral hearse just prior to 3:00pm to be led to the grave space together. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Walter’s memory to Heart to Heart Hospice (https://hearttohearthospice.com) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org).

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Huron Valley Hospital,  who provided comfort, compassion, and support during Walter’s final days.
