Fair Winds and Following Seas, Shipmate! I didn't know you personally. However, I do know your son David. I once worked for him during my time with COMPHIBRON 7. From what I know of CAPT Angood, I knew he was raised by a fine man, you.

You will certainly be missed by many. I'm positive I'll be meeting you in our Lord's Navy. Until then, keep the sails taught and oceans calm. R.I.P. Mr. Angood.

Dear Judy and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as I celebrate Art's life. Wow, what a man, who accomplished so much. He truly lived the definition of a Renaissance man. Our paths intersected in so many areas -- foundations, eduction, young people, the well being of Battle Creek and church.

I have always admired Art and the way he tackled an issue or problem, collaborated with everyone involved and got good results. He truly was a role model for the thousands of students he nurtured. Art and Bob Miller were a team and it was a pleasure to work with them.
With Love,
Dottie

My condolences go out to the Angood Family.

Mr. Angood was a great principal at Southeastern Junior High School. I have fond memories of Mr. Angood. I remember when he ask me to do a speech on school spirit during an assembly. I was very nervous, but with his support and cheering me on I made it through with shining red & gray colorsGO HILLLTOPPERS!!! He would walk through the halls interacting with the students giving us encouraging words. It was not uncommon for him to pop into the classrooms. As much as he cared about education, he cared about the lives of his students more. He was one of the BEST principals and administrators in BCPS. Once a Bearcat; Always a Bearcat! Whenever, I would see him in the community I would get a smile and a big hug. He will be missed!

To the familyTake comfort in knowing that your love one is resting comfortably, free from the troubles of this world. Mr. Angood has accomplished much, given much, and now he reaps the benefits of his labors. My prayer is for your peace and understanding that he is one of God's children and now he has claimed his place in God's "Eternal Kingdom".

Mr. Angood was my principal at Southeastern Jr. High, I thought he was a very understanding and caring man. He was easy to talk to if you had a problem. There isn't to many people like him and he will be missed.

Art and Judy were among the first to welcome us to our home on Barrington Circle in 1999. Early on Art shared with Terri some blue mountain corn flowers from his flower garden. They continue to bloom every year by our dogwood tree and serve as a reminder of Art's generous heart. Joe will never forget a purposeful meeting with Art on the street that was a recruiting effort to join the inaugural Board of Miller College. It was the realization of Art's noble vision. To be part of this initiative gave me great pride. It also made me realize that there would never be a way to say no to him and I think that he was 100% successful in all his recruiting and solicitation efforts. He was gifted. We will miss our dear friend and neighbor Art and offer our thoughts and prayers to bring solace to Judy and the Angood family.

Mr. Angood (Art) was Assistant Principal at Northwestern Junior High when I was a student. His personality, love of education, and sincere caring for students was evident for as long as I can remember. He was the one who brought so many of us back to Battle Creek Public Schools to begin our careers as educators. Even after my 34yrs of service to BCPS, and 15yrs of retirement, he will always be Mr. Angood to me.

I met Art in 1983 when I interviewed for a position as a School Social Worker (I was laid off by Marshall Public Schools due to budget cuts). I still remember our lively conversation and his keen interest in the things I had done to "make a difference" in the community I served. He couldn't offer me a job at the time (the district was bound to call back a previous employee). However, what I remember most is the phone call I received in early 1987. Art called me back to offer me a job! Yes, he remembered me and wanted me to come work for the Battle Creek Public Schools! How honored I felt that he recalled our interview and me personally. I knew that if I accepted the position, he would have been my biggest advocate and supporter - because that's who he was.
Sadly, the timing did not benefit him or me. I had just accepted a position with DOD at the Federal Center - where I stayed for 32 years until my own retirement in July, 2016. I remember following Art's contributions to the city in the articles I read about him over the years, and I always felt connected to him in a way. I know now - from reading his life story - and others who knew him - that he was just that kind of person. He left a legacy and his heart in Battle Creek forever.

Gale and I extend our condolences to your entire family. After reading Arthur's life history I wish I could have known him firsthand. I'm a longtime friend and professional colleague of his son Todd. While Arthur's passing saddens us, a celebration of his life--very well lived, will offer cherished memories in the ensuing months and years for the entire family.

So sorry tp hear about Art's passing. He exemplified kindness and generosity while still standing strong in his passion and commitment to accomplishing whatever project he supported. I leaned a lot about leadership by being in Art's presence during my time in Battle Creek. My condolences to Judy and the family.

Prayers sent to the Angood family from the Riegle family. The memories shared (a swim across the lake, the family stories, UofM track stories, Detroit Tigers, swapping fish stories and their secret locations or just talking about life) will always be close to my heart. Art is the kindest and nicest man. His love of Battle Creek always showed in our conversations and you knew there was nothing he would not do to help. He truly is someone that changed lives for the better for those around him.

Judy and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. It was my great privilege to interview you both for a write-up about the Art and Judy Angood Scholarship for the Battle Creek Community Foundation. It was only a couple hours together nearly 25 years ago, but I well remember your kindness, humor, and great love for each other and your community, especially students.
In the few passing encounters since, Art always remembered me enthusiastically and regaled others with the story of how I remembered every word of our interview. (I never had the heart to remind him that I had taped it.)
Who knows how many he's inspired with his kind enthusiasm. I am so grateful to have had him in my corner and I daresay a great many more are as well. The world is better because of him.

I was saddened to read that Mr. Angood had passed. He was the kindest, sweetest, most compassionate man and it was an honor to know him. Art and his entire family were loyal customers of mine at Shrank's and he never hesitated to call me for any of his catering needs. I am proud to have known him and I know his passing will leave a void in many hearts. There aren't many like Art in the world. RIP Mr. Angood, you left a legacy!

Valerie Phillips

February 25, 2021

Our thoughts are with the Angood family at this time.

I (Val Phillips) am writing this message for my Mother (Edith Phillips) who is Art's first cousin. I (Val) remember when I was a very young girl Aunt Marguerite coming over to Canada ( ingersoll, Ontario) to visit with her sister Florence Pole and brother-in-law Kingsley Pole.
When my mother (Edith) was a young child she remembers... Aunt Marguerite, Uncle Bernie, John and Art coming over to Canada for family visits in Ingersoll. They stayed over night at the Weatherton's home on Wellington Street next door to her home. She remembers the importance of everyone sharing a breakfast together that consisted of Canadian bacon and eggs. Ingersoll at that time was quite famous for it's cheese and dairy cows and was known as the dairy capital. Aunt Marguerite and Uncle Bernie and the boys always had to visit the Ingersoll Cheese Factory and stock up on the famous Ingersoll cheese to take back home to Michigan. It was a tradition. This is a fond memory that my Mother wanted to share with the family.

Thank you Judy for calling and letting us know that Art had passed away. A multitude of hand written letters and cards were faithfully exchanged over many decades. How fortunate we are to have such wonderful experiences and memories to share and will continue to brighten our lives with each new day.

Art was truly a pillar in the Battle Creek Community in so many ways. He was my principal at Southeastern Jr. High as I began my teaching career. I went to highschool with Art, and especially remember a science class, either chemistry or physics; time eraces some memories, but not of a nice, polite fellow student. On Ye Bearcats!
Some items in his obituary caught my attention: sailing, English major, and having my husband die from a fall with Parkinson's disease.
