Hanford Duncan Obituary
Hanford was a medical technician in the U.S. Army. After his Honorable Discharge, he came home to help his father with the family farm. Later, he also worked for McCain's Processing Plant in Washburn and Easton. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Washburn. He served as Treasurer for over 53 years and also served as a Deacon, Trustee and Usher.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Pooler) Duncan. They were married for 63 wonderful years. He has two special daughters and their spouses, Janet and Donald Peary of Washburn, and Lori and James McKeen of Bangor, one grandson; Christopher Duncan Peary; a granddaughter, Lindsay Linton Neagle and her husband, Joshua, all of Bangor, two adopted grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tyler Boyd of Washburn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Duncan Jr.; and sister, Catherine Ziegler.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn, with the Rev. Otto Palmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center, 10 Bernadette St., Caribou ME 04736; and The Aroostook Health Center Mars Hill, Activity Fund, 15 Highland Ave., Mars Hill, ME 04758. You were such a nice person. I really enjoyed the time that we were neighbors. I remember you and Ruth sending my sisters and I off to school with flowers for the teacher on the first day. I also remember sitting on your tractors in the back yard. We'll see you again someday! :-)

Hamp,
You have now begun the best time of your Life! If Heaven doesn't yet have long fields of beautiful potatoes in full blown, now that you have arrived, I suspect it soon will!
I have never known anyone else with a completely mild personality who never seemed to be ruffled by Life. You just got up each day and did the right things! As a son-in-law, I have experienced a calm home life because you bequeathed through your genes that quiet calming personality to your daughter Lori.
I have no affinity for hand tools whatsoever, and I appreciate those times you and Donald would arrive in Bangor with your tool boxes to fix whatever Lori deemed needed fixing.
You will be missed, but we all know you are now receiving well deserved rewards from a life well lived.

Dear Aunt Ruthie, Janet and Lori, I remember Uncle Hamp with much love. I will always remember him coming to our home and his having to bend his head to get in our doors. Always impressed me with his quiet dignity and caring ways.

There is so much we could say but there wouldn't be enough space for us to do so. He was our very much loved long time neighbor and friend, but really much more of and cherished honorary family member. We all loved him to much. We most especially appreciate how he and Ruth have always loved and treated Tyler and Elizabeth as their own. The world was made a much better place just by his existence and our lives were made much better having him be a part of it. We loved him so much, and will miss him terribly.
