Constance Ames

Constance M. "Connie" Ames, nee Buckman, 79, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Aug. 6, 1936, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Connie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a dear friend to many and loved by all. Connie kept a close circle of friends who were part of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Ames Jr.; her grandsons, Jordan Ames and Jeffrey D. Ames; her parents, Percy and Lela Booker, nee Hayden, Buckman; her siblings, Paul Buckman, Bertha Lou Danihels, Joan Allen and James R. Hayden; and dearly, Rich Rawlings.

Surviving are her children, James W. (Cheryl) Ames III of Shiloh, Ill., Janet M. Varner of Belleville, Ill., Julie A. (Tim) Jenkins of O'Fallon, Ill., and Jeannie E. (Bill) O'Dell of Belleville, Ill.; her grandchildren, James W. (Tessa) Ames IV, Jonathan M. Ames, Joshua Ames, Andrew R. Varner, Alex A. Jenkins, Sophia R. Jenkins, Luke M. Jenkins, Connor W. O'Dell, Lindsey E. O'Dell; Ryan Rawlings and Richard Rawlings; a great-granddaughter, Jolie Ames; former son-in-law, Robert E. Varner; brother-in-law, Ronald (Dorothy) Ames; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Al) Mills, Debbie Ames and Audrey (Milton) Touchette.

The family would like to acknowledge all of the love and support shown to their mother. She was truly blessed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.kasslyfuneral.com.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: A funeral procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, Ill., with Msgr. James Margason officiating. Cremation will follow.

Aunt Connie was the sweetest sister of Grandma Bucky. I no sooner reconnected with her on Facebook, she died soon after. I will always remember her beauty inside and out and the visits she made to us in California. God Bless and keep you always.

I was so happy to reconnect with Connie, and Janet on Facebook. I was happy for Amanda to have contact with her great-aunt Connie. I will always remember Connie's generous smile and great big heart. Mrs. Ames was a wonderful lady! She loved her family deeply and was a strong promoter of education. I taught her children (Mrs. Anielak at the time)and she was a loving and devoted Mother. I am so sorry to hear of her loss. I will keep her family and friends in my prayers.
