Dear
Sean-Marie, Joseph and family--
We are shocked and saddened to learn of your father's death. We first met your dad when we were students abroad at the University of Vienna
in 1954, and Doug continued his friendship with him at Notre Dame. We visited Dick's first family in his early years in NYC: we still have photos of you, Sean-Marie, from 1959--and we were present at Joe's
christening. Sadly, we lost contact thereafter--but only a few months
ago I telephoned him and had one of the longest phone conversations of
my life, catching up after almost half a century. He was quite a
character in our young days, and from the obit it seems he always was.
We know you will miss him terribly, but we also are sure that you will
always see him in the twinkle of your children's eyes!

Sean-Marie and Family,
I was sadden to hear about your loss. Your father (grandfather) sounded like a wonderful person. May he rest in peace. I am sure you will have many treasured memories of him.

Chris
I never met or knew your Dad but wish I could have. I would have congratulated him on the marvelous job he did raising you and that it is a real pleasure to work with his son. Your kindness and compassion as a co-worker are second to none and your Dad's work ethic is clearly present in you. He raised a real class act and left you and your family a wonderful legacy. My wife and I convey our deepest sorrow and sympathy to you and your family over the loss of your Dad for without a doubt, he will truly be missed.

Dear Sean-Marie,
We were sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad, but after reading his obituary, we are sure he must have been proud of your passion and contributions to schools and young people,
