Peter Fairbanks Barney

1939 - 2014

Peter Fairbanks Barney, 75, of 30 Pine Ave died on May 25, 2014 at Kindred Hospital Northeast Stoughton.
Peter was born in Denver, Colo. on February 3, 1939, the son of Kendall Barney and Eleanor Ells Barney. He was a 1963 graduate of Bard College majoring in Art and Sociology.
Peter's passions were art, social work, and travel. From 1956-58, he took a voyage around the world. He also worked for the MA Department of Public Welfare in Adams. At the time of his death, Peter continued to use his social service expertise to pursue the fair treatment of elders in his building complex.
Peter also taught art at many public schools in the Berkshires. This lead to the role of Art Supervisor for The Head Start Program throughout Berkshire County. He also opened his own custom furniture making business and was making jewelry for friends and family.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Lona Barney and granddaughter, Abigail Tague of North Adams; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Epps of Georgia, Rachel Vadnais of Stamford, Vt., Kimberly Trimarchi of Adams; two brothers , Jon Barney of Virginia and James Barney of Massachusetts; nieces, nephews, and grandchildren; his cousins, Ruth Terry and Brenton Welsh of Orleans, Mass.; and uncle and aunt , Theodore and Tina Ells of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held at Ells Cottage in Eastham at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 in Eastham, Mass. and because of its obscure location people should meet at Nauset Lighthouse at 1 p.m. For more info contact lbarney5751@gmail.com. To see complete obituary go to www.berkshireeagle.com/obits
