Allan Rosenthal Obituary

ROSENTHAL, ALLAN J. Allan J. Rosenthal, 96, of 1450 Whitney Ave, Hamden, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2014 in Masonicare’s Hospice Unit after a short stay at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Boston on January 1, 1918, he was the son of the late Louis and Sadie (Laskey) Rosenthal. He leaves his beloved wife of 49 years, Barbara (Cohn) Rosenthal, daughter, Connie (Milender) Goebel, son-in-law, Jay Goebel, grandchildren, Alec and Sally Goebel of Orange, sister Helaine (Rosenthal) Meyers of Brookline MA, brother, Irwin Rosenthal of Chestnut Hill, MA, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Allan lived most of his life in Brookline and Boston, MA. He got his BA and MBA from Dartmouth College in 5 years, then attended naval officer training school at Columbia. He was a Lieutenant in WWII serving in Italy, North Africa and later in Seattle. Upon returning to Boston, he worked for Jos. P. Manning and Boston Bonnie Fisheries before going into financial planning. He was still working for Arthur W. Wood Co. at age 92 when an illness forced him to retire and relocate to CT to be close to his daughter. Retirement gave him the opportunity to play bridge and read his beloved history books. Days before leaving YNHH he was reading a history book with highlighter in hand, discussing the US Constitution with his doctor. The family wishes to thank the staff of Atria Larson Place, Dr. Chris Sankey and the staff at YNHH, as well as the staff at Masonicare for the gentle caring and love you gave our Allan. Those who knew him know how he could touch your heart and we thank you for cherishing his. Funeral service will be held at Congregation Mishkan Israel, 785 Ridge Rd., Hamden, Thursday afternoon at 1 pm. The interment will be in the Temple Ohabei Shalom Cemetery, East Boston, MA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice. The Weller Funeral Home, 493 Whitney Ave., New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
