Salwa - a long, exciting life together. Meeting on the Silk Road trip in 2011, Tom L. certainly felt he met a "soul mate" in Bob. I kept wanting to get Bob's wisdom on cryptocurrency - the 21st century chapter of Bob's wild '70's foreign currency ride. Thankfully your kids also are grown, your granddaughters - mature enough to have known their granddad. Really wonderful that his story is captured well in "Riches Among the Ruins"...which if a new friend asked him about it, Bob would always say "just read my book"...with your many acquaintances around the world, I'm guessing that sold a slug of books! He will be missed. Sorry for your loss.
All the best to you and your family. I hope we see eachother soon.

As we were recently passing again through Emirate Air lounge in Dubai Airport, I was looking for you and Robert. Clearly, he was on his way elsewhere ~ ~ ~
What amazing fun it was finding Robert in the airport a few years ago ~ and then welcoming you as you returned from the Emirate Spa, or was from the non pareil shopping ? ! ?
Dearest Salwa, you know you and Edward and Fiona are in my thoughts and prayers . What a ride you and Robert have shared ~ Much love from Paris, Suzanne

Dear Salwa,
How very shocking and sad! It seems, though, that Bob was active and making plans up to the last minute, but that probably makes things all the more difficult for those left behind. It was a great treat to meet you and Bob during our TCS trip, and most touching for me to hear him talk of his admiration of my father each time we got together. Let's keep in touch and try to meet up when we return to New York and/or Boston in the Spring. Sending you our condolences and affection.

Dear Salwa, Edward and Fiona,
I was so shocked and saddened to read of Bob's passing in the Digital Boston Globe today. Bob and I met on a ski hill in Colorado almost 40 years ago and we became great friends for many years after . He was truly an interesting, worldly and very bright guy who could converse about almost any subject.
Whenever we were in close proximity we would always find a way to get in a golf game which I thoroughly enjoyed each and every time. I will surely miss my dear friend Bob.
May you and your family be spared any further sorrows.

Dear Salwa and Fiona , Lee and I were just notified late this evening by Nancy that Your dear Bob had passed away. We are in shock as you all must be. Bob was a charismatic person with such a gusto for life with exquisite taste. His generous spirit has left an enduring legacy at several academic institutions. It was an honor to know Bob and be his friend. A gentleman on and off the golf course. We will never forget how proud he was of you his beautiful intelligent wife Salwa and his equally talented and beautiful daughter and twin grand daughters and loving son Edward. Bob will be sorely missed.Much love with a heart full of sorrow,Susan and Lee Berk

This is a shocking loss. Bob and I had spoken on the phone about an hour before the end -- we were nailing down a dinner date at the vanishing Durgin-Park "market dining room" downtown. From the 8th grade at Roxbury Latin School, we had enjoyed an enthusiastic friendship for 65 years. I'm praising the Big Guy for Bob's long life -- earnestly driven, original and marvelously productive. In sadness, Chris Lydon

It is with tears of sadness that I say good bye to my dear friend. Robert has stayed many summers in my home here in West Vancouver. We enjoyed golfing together and sharing stories of our adventures. I loved his book, bought the last copy in Hawaii. Robert will forever be in my heart as my Indiana Jones of the financial world. He will be missed and lives on through his family and friends.,May God Bless Roberts family.

My sincerest condolences to the Smith family. Bob was a very unique person, and a great friend.
He recognized he owed Roxbury Latin and Bowdoin a lot for the great education he got, and very generously endowed buildings at both schools.
He was so excited about the chance to further give back by teaching this coming semester at an African American college in South Carolina.
Bob was a lot of fun to be with, particularly on the golf course.
He left a great legacy of giving back and helping others. Terry Philip Segal, Gloucester
