DENISE PINEAU Obituary

PINEAU, Denise Ann 59, CAMI vice president, musician, of Weehawken, N.J., and Plymouth, Mass., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, in Riverdale, N.Y., after a 21-month battle with ovarian cancer. Born Oct. 2, 1953 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Florence (McGonigle) and Eldon Al Pineau, and the sister of the late Diane Marie (Pineau) Ireland. Her family moved to Plymouth in 1965 and she attended the Plymouth schools, graduating from Plymouth-Carver Regional High School with the Class of 1971. She earned her bachelors degree in music from Wheaton College and a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from Boston University. She had worked for 16 years, the last eight as a vice president, with Columbia Artists Management Inc. (CAMI), an international leader in managing the careers and touring activities of the world's most prominent performing artists and institutions. She began her business career with Barnes & Noble in Boston and moved to New York City more than 25 years ago to manage the music departments of that companys largest stores in the northeast U.S. Over the years, she was also employed with Trans World Music Corp.; the National Association of Recording Merchandisers, consulting on the Congressionally proclaimed September in Classical Music Month campaigns; and American International Artists/Ocean Records. While she chose to concentrated her career on the business side of the music industry, she also continued to sing, appearing with many groups and organizations, among them the Baldwin Festival Chorus in New York, of which she was a founding member, and the Dessoff Choirs in New York. She also performed as a soloist with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in Massachusetts and in recitals and cabarets across the New York City area. Denise will be remembered not only for her exceptional musical talent and business acumen but, by family, friends and colleagues, for her dedication and work ethic, loyalty and compassion, independence and bravery, her zest for life and her distinctive and always contagious laugh. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Stanley Ireland of Plymouth; her nephew, Shawn Ireland, also of Plymouth; and her niece, Heather (Ireland) Bumpus, of Decherd, Tenn., as well as Heathers husband, Christopher Bumpus, and their daughters, her grand nieces, Madison Diane Sara and Ava Jacqueline Bumpus. She also leaves her aunt, Marion Malone of South Boston, her cousins and many, many friends and colleagues in both the New York and Plymouth areas. A visiting hour will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Cartmell Funeral Home, located at 150 Court St. (Route 3A) in PLYMOUTH, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at the Church of the Pilgrimage, located in Town Square in downtown Plymouth, and interment in Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth. Donations in her memory may be made to Diane's Gift of Kindness, c/o Jordan Hospital, 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, MA 02360. For directions and an online guest book, visit www.cartmellfuneralhome.com
