FERDINAND COLLOREDO-MANSFELD Obituary

COLLOREDO-MANSFELD, Ferdinand Boston business leader, champion of health care reform, advocate for Boston public schools, and land conservationist, died at his home on December 26, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in England September 19, 1939, to American mother and Austrian father. He graduated from Groton School in 1957 and Harvard College in 1961. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1965, Moose took a job with Brown Brothers Harriman where he worked in investment management. In 1970 he joined Cabot, Cabot & Forbes and went on to serve as CEO for thirteen years, at a time when CC&F was one of the most active commercial property development operations in the country. In the 1990s, he formed a real estate investment trust and completed an initial public offering in early 1998. Over his 36 year business career, he served on numerous boards including Raytheon Company, Data General Corporation, and Shawmut National Corporation. He also served as trustee at Groton School and various committees at Harvard University. Moose's primary passion was in the civic affairs of the city he loved. In the 1970s, he served as an active trustee of an inner-city services organization called Opportunities Industrialization Centers of Greater Boston. Governor Michael Dukakis appointed him as co-chair of the Committee for Economic Development and MASSJOBS. In the 1980s, he worked to form what became known as the Boston Compact, a commitment made by leading companies to provide employment for graduates of Boston Public Schools. A long-time trustee of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Moose served as its board chair in the early 1990s. In that role, he worked with both the MGH and the Brigham and Women's Hospital to form Partners Healthcare Group. Moose married Susanna Lawrence in 1962. Together they shared an unshakable interest in the outdoors and horses, a commitment to land conservation, and a love for Jackson Hole. Over the years, he and Susanna returned to Wyoming with their children to ski in the winter and head out pack trips in the mountains in the summer. In addition to his wife, Moose is survived by his brother Rudolf Colloredo-Mannsfeld of Sierndorf, Austria, his three children Franz Colloredo-Mansfeld of Hamilton, Rudolf Colloredo-Mansfeld of Chapel Hill, NC and Anne Penfield of Strafford VT, their spouses and ten grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions, Danvers MA (www.caredimensions.org). A memorial service will be held in April of 2018.
