PEGGY BOUCHARD Obituary

PEGGY MAVIS GILBERT (WARD) BOUCHARD SOUTH BURLINGTON - Peggy Mavis Gilbert (Ward) Bouchard died Sept. 24, 2011, with her family by her side at Fletcher Allen Hospital after a brief illness. She was a gracious, caring, mother and grandmother -- one of a kind -- and will be sorely missed. She was the only child of William and Stella (Garwell) Ward of Spalding, England, born July 11, 1922. When she was 5 years old, she moved with her parents to Peterborough, where she was educated at a girls school into her adolescence. When World War II broke out in 1939, she worked for the government in communications. She met and married Herbert L. Bouchard in Peterborough, England on Nov. 25, 1944, and after the war, rejoined her husband in Vermont, February 1946. She was predeceased by her beloved husband in March 1991. "Mrs. B" and her husband owned the Bel-Aire Motel from 1967 to 1985. Mrs. Bouchard was a past president of the Greater Burlington Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Association, also of the Holy Rosary Society of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, where she was a lector for over 40 years. Mrs. Bouchard was an Interpreter at the Shelburne Museum for 15 summers. She was also a volunteer at Fletcher Allen Health Care for five years. Mrs. Bouchard is survived by her four children, Christopher Bouchard of Burlington, and his two daughters, Jennifer Paradee and husband, Matthew, of Essex, Michelle Duval and husband, James, of South Burlington; Brenda Bouchard of South Burlington; Jonathan and his wife, Jeanne, of South Burlington, and his children, Andrew and wife, Hannah, and Elizabeth and her fiancé, Brian McHugh, of Boston, Mass.; Rebecca and her husband, Robert Bouchard, of Shelburne, and their daughters, Jillian and Sydney. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Harvest and Esther Cornelius-Bouchard, and Acadia and Emma Paradee; nieces and nephews; and several very dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Burlington. Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Rice Memorial High School Scholarship Fund, 99 Proctor Avenue, South Burlington, VT 05403. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington. She was the first English lady I met in Vermont in September, 1965 and introduced me to the Overseas Wives Club, to which we both belonged till the present day. She was special and sweet and had a great sense of humor and I enjoyed many cups of tea and a chat with her, the last in early September. I loved this lady and am so saddened by her passing.
