Dear Katherine, William, and Steven,
Just heard the news (April 2) regarding Howie's passing and felt a wave of sadness go over me. I worked with Howie at IPD from 1991-1995. I always appreciated his wacky sense of humor! His big claim to fame (for me!) is that he was they guy who started the Woodstock Rain Chant!! Yes! On the serious side, my favorite quote regarding death is: "We come from the Earth and we return to the Earth. And it between we garden." I know Howie is leaving behind a beautiful garden! I'm glad I got the chance to meet and hang out with him. My sincerest condolences.

Katherine,
I am so grateful to have seen you and Howie in Trader Joe's before I was stunned to learn of his passing this year. We truly never know how long someone may be with us and I am grateful that I have a tendency when I part from others, I consider it may be the last I see them.
I treasure the warm and delightful interaction with you both before he passed and hope that you and your children find a gentle way through your loss. I am so happy that you have had such a loving and caring husband, father, partner, and friend for the years you shared. May treasured memories continue to fuel your soul - With loving kindness,

Katherine, just heard about Howies passing from Liza. My heart goes out to you and the family. I have such sweet memories of staying with you on Patchen Rd when we arrived from Florida so long ago. Early morning fishing trips to Shelburne Pond with a most enthusiastic Howie, me still trying to wake up. Peace be with you! Mary sends love.

Dear Katherine,
Just learned of Howie's passing. Living in south Idaho now, I had not heard about his illness. I can only imagine the heartbreak that you and your boys are navigating. My memories of Howie are old ones now, but they are strong and filled with the same warmth and humor that his many friends and acquaintances speak of here. God bless you in your loss. Betsi and I send our deepest condolences.

Howard Verman was my principal while at BPMS. I remember him teaching all of us how to twirl and eat spaghetti the 'right way' and the 'wrong way'. Both presentations were followed by gym full of children's laughter- I am grateful for that memory.

I'll never forget his pants being pulled way up over his navel when we did our shtich as old borscht belt comedians at LCWS auctions! Watching the Giants in the playoffs with my dad at the Verman's. Stories about going to the Apollo to see, among others Otis Redding! Getting to fill in at bridge game, so many laughs! Good man, good times!!!!

Howard skillfully, kindly and successfully helped our oldest son navigate the college application process. He was also a warm, friendly energy at many LCWS events; he will be remembered well and missed by many. My heart goes out to Katherine and the boys, hoping they can easily access what must be a treasure trove of wonderful memories to comfort and sustain. I give thanks for Howard and the positive influence he had on our oldest.

We at KidSafe Collaborative are tremendously saddened by the passing of our good friend and long-time KidSafe Board member, Howard Verman. Howard was our longest-serving Board member (since August 2003!), past Board President, and most notably co-Chaired our annual Yard Sale fundraiser for many years, bringing his dedication, hard work, leadership, humor and even silliness, to make the event a success each year. He also served for many years on our Community Advisory Board, reflecting his strong commitment to the safety and well-being of children and youth. Children were truly his lifetime passion, both in his volunteer work with KidSafe and in his career as an educator and with his work at Strategies for College.
We will miss Howard's true and sincere kindness, his dedication to children and to our work here at KidSafe, his humor and his twinkle-in-the-eye wit (he could always lift everyone's spirits or make us all groan at a silly pun or joke he'd tell).
Wishing you endless love and light, Howard; and our heartfelt condolences to the Verman family, from all of us on the staff, Board of Directors, and Community Advisory Board of KidSafe Collaborative

Howard helped me apply to college back in my teen years and I can confidently say, without his help I would not be where I am today. He was patient, understanding, and knew how to guide you towards making a conclusion for yourself, instead of outright telling you what it is like most ordinary people would do. Howard was anything but ordinary, his kindness and will to help put me on a path to success at a school where I grew into the person I am today. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing and would like to extend my condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Thank you Howard, for helping me find my stride.

I still remember a long time ago Howie sharing a huge big book of Drummer Hoff at Barnes School with kids he brought over from Wheeler. It was creative and fun and educational for all: all hallmarks of Howie's career as an educator and who is was as a human being. He is gone way too soon. My condolences to his family.

It saddens me to learn of Howard Verman's passing. He was the principal when I was a student at Brewster Pierce Elementary school, and was always supportive to the kids. He would greet students coming in off the bus every morning with a smile and a friendly greeting. His family have my thoughts and prayers/
