Archie SCOTT Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Feb. 24 to Feb. 25, 2017.
SCOTT, Archie Watson
June 12, 1927 Willow Bunch, SK
February 17, 2017 Calgary, AB
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Archie was predeceased, in February 2012, by his loving wife Lorraine of 63 years. He will be sadly missed by his beloved children Larry (Nancy), Judy (Philip) Graham, Dave (Jennifer), Nancy (Paul) McCorquindale and Cathy (Russ) Polski; grandchildren Ken (Corrine Yu) Scott, Jackie (Kevin) Bates, Alison (Mark) Dunstan, Candice (Tyler) McLellan, Kaleigh, Kelsie and Shayne Scott, Mike (Erin) and Jon (April) McCorquindale, Stephanie and Anita Polski; as well seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ivy Fowler, and his brothers, Ralph and Will. Archie grew up in Rossland, BC and that is where he started a lengthy hockey career that included playing with the Trail Smoke Eaters, Oakland Oaks, Calgary Stampeders, Olds Elks (player/coach) and coach of the Drumheller Miners. One of Archie's notable accomplishments came during his professional play with the Calgary Stampeders of the Western Hockey League when he established a new record by scoring 3 goals in 47 seconds. A sportsman with a competitive spirit, Archie also excelled in baseball, lacrosse, curling and golf, shooting a hole in one, on three occasions. A founding and Charter member of the Calgary Winter Club, he initiated and coached a hockey school at the club. When not playing hockey, he was a dedicated long time employee of Calgary Power/TransAlta Utilities. Worshipful Brother Archie was a Past Master and lifetime member of the Jubilee Masonic Lodge. Archie volunteered in many and varied capacities including coach for minor hockey, Sunday school teacher, Scout leader, driver for Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the Brier, and Scotties Tournament of Hearts. While he had many passions, Archie's greatest passion was for his family. Many happy memories were made and revolved around family gatherings and family trips. Many thanks to Dr. Cenabre, staff of Brentwood Care Centre and Rev. Kobus Genis for their kind care and attention in the past few years. A Celebration of Archie's Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 290 Edgepark Blvd NW, Calgary, AB on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #200 – 119 – 14 Street N.W. Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca. I remember being in a mixed golf tourney with Lorraine and Archie, which they won. Archie was so proud of Lorraine. They were a great couple and reared a wonderful family. Thanks Judy for your e-mails.

Archie was a co-worker at TransAlta, and I enjoyed hearing stories of his hockey days. He was very graceful when I succeeded him in one of his jobs. My condolences to his family.

Farewell to a truly good man, the best neighbour we've ever had (along with dear, sweet Lorraine), and a great friend. He shared his birthday with Jim, and we have the funny, hot tub and golf stories to go with those memories. Years after we left Calgary we could look forward to their annual visit in B.C. We will never forget and will always miss this treasured friendship. With our deepest sympathy to Archie's family. He was always so proud of all of you, especially during and after Lorraine's fight with cancer. Now they're together again, . .Love Liz and Jim
