Marjorie Filipski

FILIPSKI _ Marjorie Mary Marjorie Mary Filipski passed away peacefully on July 11, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Marjorie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1934 to parents William and Mary Valta. Her happy young life was filled with friends and family. Marj was educated at Notre Dame Academy where she excelled at sports. She then enrolled in nursing school at Bryn Mawr College. It was there where she met her future husband Gene who was attending Villanova University. She faithfully supported his football career, which took them from New York City to Calgary. Upon Gene's retirement from football Marj embraced Calgary as her home. She devoted many years to the community service clubs Rotary Partners and the Samaritan Club. With typical enthusiasm she was fundamental to the establishment and growth of the family business Calgary Outdoor Advertising which continues successfully to this day. Marj had a love of horses and cherished her partnerships in thoroughbreds. A highlight was certainly the winning of the Lieutenant Governors Purse by Sea Jay, one of her favourite horses. She created the Kiva Country Store in Bragg Creek and for eight years she managed all aspects of its success. Marjorie met all her life challenges with uncommon grace and courage. She had a sincere respect for all people and had a gift for making everyone she met feel worthy, unique and special. Above all, she was a mother to her sons and legions of their friends. She embodied the word maternal by her consoling and nurturing nature. She tirelessly devoted time to listening, comforting and bringing joy to all those that were privileged to know her. She will be greatly missed. Marjorie is the loving mother of E. Chas, Jr. (Terri) of Calgary, William B. (Shelley) of Calgary and Michael V. (Fiona) of Calgary as well as beloved Grandy to John, Amelia, Chip and Will. She will also be remembered by her cousins; Patty, Joey, Marguerite and loyal caregiver Gale Robinson. Marj was predeceased by her husband E.C. Filipski, Sr. in 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marj's memory to a charity of one's choice. Relatives and Friends are invited to a Prayer Service on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 - 14 Street S.W.). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Edmund Vargas, Presider.
