Patricia Carlyle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2007.
CARLYLE _ Patricia Janet (Hay) Patsy Carlyle, of the Bentley area, died suddenly but peacefully on May 24, 2007, marking the end of a three-year determined and hopeful struggle with cancer and related treatments. Patsy was predeceased by her parents John (2004) and Eileen Hay (2006) and sister Joan Delich (1985). She will be forever loved and sadly missed by David, her husband of thirty-seven years; her children, Drake (Amy Maish) of Toronto, Marcy of Calgary and Sarah of Mexico; dear nieces, Julia and Jennifer Delich; brother John (Rose) Hay of Ottawa; sister Barb (Don) Eberhardt of Vancouver; brother-in-law Michael Delich of Fernie; and all her nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by many relatives and good friends. Born on May 29, 1943, Patsy was raised in Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a B.Ed. in 1965. After marrying Dave in 1969 they lived briefly in Germany before building their home and settling in the Blindman Valley, south of Bentley. She taught primary school, both in Burnaby and Bentley, before dedicating her life to raising her children. She remained active in the Bentley School and community, where she gained the admiration and friendship of those she encountered. Figure skating was her life-long passion. She was the B.C. Junior Champ in 1960 and spent two years after university traveling North America with Ice Capades. She coached her daughters and many other young skaters and avidly followed the figure skating world. For many years she escaped the cold Alberta winters to visit her parents in Palm Desert and enjoyed three other life-long passions there - sun, tennis and shopping. Patsy's sincere interest in others and welcoming nature brought many friends into her own family. She was well known for her love to chat both on the phone and in person. Her energy, compassion and warmth will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Lacombe Community Care, Unit 32 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital or a charity of choice. Special thanks to all health care professionals at both facilities. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the CrossRoads Church in Red Deer (west of Highway 2 on 32 Street). Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to [email protected] - subject-Carlyle. Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting Sarah's mother Patsy, I do know her daughter Sarah from Mexico, and think the world of her. Looking at Patsy's picture I can see where the beautiful smile came from. I imagine Patsy knew what a special daughter she has and Sarah's dedication to her friends is amazing. Her friends in mexico have been thinking about her lots and we are there for her. My sincere condolences to the Carlyle Family.
