Alonzo Saenz Obituary

Alonzo Angel Saenz, 62 passed away March 27, 2003 at an Alice Hospital after succumbing to cancer. He was born in Rio Grande City, Texas on October 2, 1940. He attended school in San Isidro, Texas then went on to Texas A&I University of Kingsville from where he graduated in 1964. In 1965 he received a commission in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant and served until 1971. During his naval career he served three tours off the coast of North Vietnam on the cruiser Long Beach the USS Tutuila (A.C.R.-4) and the carrier Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) at Yankee Station. Following navy service Al joined the U.S. Border Patrol, serving 24 years, retiring in 1997. He also served 10 years on the Brooks ISD School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents Graciano and Eloisa Saenz of Rio Grande City. Survivors include his wife Socorro Carrion Saenz of Falfurrias, a son Paul Saenz of Alice, Texas, a daughter and son-in-law Darlena and Brian Craig of San Diego, California. Brian is in the US Navy. Two granddaughters, Brittany and Briana. A grandson, Dyllan (The apple of his eye), one sister, Magdalena (Calixtro) Gomez of Rio Grande City, twin brothers, Abel (Ramona) Saenz of Rio Grande City, Adalberto (Janie) Saenz of Fort Worth, Texas, Graciano Saenz Jr., of Rio Grande City, numerous nephews and nieces. A rosary will be recited at 7:00p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at the Howard Williams Turcotte Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
