Jane Elizabeth GarrettMay 5, 1911 - July 6, 2005Jane Elizabeth Garrett, age 94, long time resident of Kerrville, passed away in Kerrville July 6.Known as Jane by friends and Aunt Jane by family, she was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 5, 1911 to Herbert N. and Irene Garrett. Jane graduated from Tivy High School in 1929 and attended Sul Ross State Teachers' College at Alpine, Texas. Jane never married, choosing instead, a career with the Texas Highway Department. In 1943 she joined the Military Welfare Service of the American Red Cross, serving with 46th Seabees and the 146th Seabees on the island of Okinawa for a period of three years. Returning home to Corpus Christi in 1946, Jane went to work with the LaGloria Oil Co later acquired by Texas Eastern Transmission Co, Houston, and retired to Kerrville in 1976.Jane was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert N Garrett Jr, John H Garrett, and Curran L Garrett. She is survived by a brother, Harry-Benton Garrett, of Kerrville, nephews Curran Garrett Jr of Austin, James Garrett of Dallas, and Harry Garrett Jr of Center Point. three nieces, Linda Oliver and Suzanne Garrett, of Kerrville and A. J. Shafer, of Mountain Home.The family extends their deep appreciation to the dedicated and caring staff of the Wound Center of the Peterson Regional Ambulatory Care Center and Intensive Care Unit at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital. Special gratitude is also extended to the many volunteers of the Meals on Wheels Program of the Dietert Senior Center. If desired, a contribution in Janes's name may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, Dietert Senior Center, 617 Jefferson, Kerrville, Texas 78028.
