BETTY BLACK Obituary

Betty Jane Rosenberry Black

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX

Betty Jane Rosenberry Black, 74 went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2017. She was born on September 5, 1943, in Peters Gap Township, Pennsylvania, to Bard Franklin Rosenberry and Irma Marden Craig Rosenberry.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Black, her parents, Bard & Irma Rosenberry, her brother, Bard L. Rosenberry and three sisters, Patricia Sheffield, Carrie Adkins and Hally Turner.

She is survived by her sister, Corrine Shilling and husband Clyde; her sister, Janet Purdham; her mother-in-law, Christine Black; her brothers-in-law, Bob (Joan) Black, Richard (Sandi)Black and Dennis (Diana) Black; her nieces, Joni Miner, Stephanie Bowers, Marki Mayle, Susan Sheffield Dixon, Nicole Burnside, Liane Black, Lauren (Charley) Snyder; her nephew, Greg Potts, Jodi Rosenberry, Monty Rosenberry, Corbett Black, Brandon (Amber) Black, Jonathon (Jennifer) Black and Brian Black; great nephews, Austin Brittner, DeAndre Johnson, Darrick Rosenberry, Darcy Black, Caden Burnside and Adam Black; and great nieces, Bethany Black and Adalyn Burnside; and her beloved dog, Grace, who was her constant companion.

Betty and Jim Black made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the 1970's and it was here that she embraced life and all that it had to offer. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Masters Degree in Psychology. She also completed the Dale Carnegie course and recognizes that as one of her greatest accomplishments which was instrumental to her success. Betty and Jim never had any children of their own, but her love for children led her straight to the Corpus Christi public school system, where she taught for many years. Betty eventually became a successful realtor and in 2000 she opened her own realty company, Betty Black Realty. She poured her heart and soul into her business.

Betty was very passionate about the great City of Corpus Christi. She was elected to the Corpus Christi City Council representing District 2 (North Beach). She remained very active in the Republican Party and was a member of the Nueces County Republican Women. Betty was instrumental in helping to establish the Women's Shelter of South Texas in Corpus Christi. Two of her proudest achievements included helping with the renovation of the World War I Memorial, known as the Gold Star Mothers' Court, and, with renovations on North Beach to The Boardwalk that runs along the beach and the USS Lexington Museum.

She was an adventurer at heart and lived a good and happy life. She learned to pilot a plane and became a novice potter. She loved riding her trike bike over the Harbor Bridge; she enjoyed gong on weekend getaways with Jim to the Frio River; and she loved spending time with her very special group of gal pals, Kimberly, Tracy and Holly.

Because Betty was passionate about animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Coastal Bend Community Foundation, in memory to The Jim and Betty Black Fund, 615 N. Upper Broadway #1950, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park

Betty came to us via a friend who recommended her as a property manager. She had a reputation for getting the job done and she did that for us. She will be missed. She always took time to talk with me about our property. I liked that we could chat, laugh, and talk business all at the same time. I am glad we knew her.

So very sorry to hear of Aunt Jane's passing. She asked us to come visit her in Texas many times, so sorry that we were unable to visit with her before she passed. Rest in Peace.
