In Honor Of Babe Stearn,
When I picked up The Repository dated January 12, 2007 I immediately went to the article about Babe Stearn. My eyes fell upon the smaller pictures at the bottom of the page. Those pictures look very familiar! I am now much older and still remember the dozens and dozens of times that me and my friend, Walt Broucker, would be there waiting for those doors to open! We always played basketball, went to machine and wood shop and watched movies! It was a great time in my life.
The following is for everyone who knew Babe Stearn and also for those who didn't have the pleasure of knowing him....in the dictionary under the words, "honor" and "integrity" there should be Babe Stearn's picture because he is surely the defintion of it. Just a great, great guy.

Hello Lon and Nancy,

I remember when we were in Mighty Mites and had our picture in the newspaper with Babe. (only about 45 years ago!!)I really thought we made it to the "Big Leagues" then. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for all he did in Canton. He will be missed by many.

Regards to your family,

I am so sorry to hear of your lost and wish to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences. May God be with you and guide you during this time.-Isaiah 66:13

Dear Jan, Mitch, Leah, Rachel & Family,
Jack was one of those people you never forget, and made a great impression on me the very first time I met him with his big smile and positive attitude. And I just learned today about the boys club, and what a huge impact it had on the community, but more importantly how "Babe" touched and help shape the lives of so many with his caring way. I know how very much he'll be missed. May the happy memories comfort you all and keep him close to you always.
Sincerely,
The Fitzgeralds

I only met him once and that seemed to be one of the proudest times of his life. He came up to me after a performance of ANNIE in which I had the pleasure of performing in at the North Canton Playhouse. He said how much he enjoyed my performance and I said he should be very proud of Lauren as she was the STAR. He smiled and said he would be proud of her no matter what she did. A loving family is an everlasting treasure. My thoughts are with the entire family

Sympathy to the Stearn Family, Like many others I grew up at the Boys Club.. Babe bought me a t-shirt that was torn because of a fight, which kept me out of trouble with my mom..That was almost 50 yrs. ago..Because of his love, I coached for many years in Mighty Might Baseball..You were a good person & always was surrounded by those who were good..Thanks to the Stearn Family for sharing this man!
..(Gal. 6:10)..Sincerely,

Babe was a wonderful man of integrity and honor and we thank God for blessing us with his wisdom that he used to encourage us with resources to put our eight children through college.

We thank God for Babe wonderful friendship and God knew how much his life on this earth would be celebrated because of how wonderful he was in so many ways. May God lift your spirit encourage your heart, build your faith, and brighten your day with joy and peace.
"He Himself has said,
I will not in any way fail you
nor give you up
nor leave you without support."
Hebrews 13:5
May your troubled heart
find peace and comfort in the knowledge
that you are never alone.
May God's presence ease
your trembling spirit and give you rest.
He knows how you feel.
He is ever aware of your circumstances
and ready to be your strength,
your grace, and your peace.
He is there to cast sunlight
into all of your darkened shadows,
to send encouragement through the love
of friends and family, and
to replace your weariness with new hope.

God is your stronghold,
and with Him as your guide,
you need never be afraid.
No circumstances can block His love.
No grief is too hard for Him to bear.
No task is too difficult
for Him to complete.
When what you are feeling
is simply too deep for words
and nothing anyone does or says
can provide you with the relief you need,
God understands.
He is your provider --
today, tomorrow, and always.
And He loves you.
Cast all of your cares on Him...
and believe.

With our deepest sympathy

It was the mid-fifties when Babe tied some boxing gloves on this nine-year-old's hands because he had been fighting with another boy in the Canton Police Boys Club on Navarre Road. The gloves were as big as our heads. Three minutes and a two bloody noses later two exhausted boys shook hands at Babe's direction. I believe they learned that day the silliness of their disagreement and the futility of the anger and agression they let it cause. I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of men whom Babe taught such lessons over the years. Thanks Babe. God's peace to you and his comfort to your family.

I am deeply saddened by Babe's passing. I played piano for the choir in during my high school years in the mid 70's. I have fond memories of Christmas with Babe and the choir especially reforming at the X-News Boys Christmas party. Its been 20 years since those memory's of the Boys Club and Babe, however they will always hold a special place within my heart. I remember Babe attending my mothers surprise birthday party and my fathers funeral. What a man Babe was. My prayers and thoughts are with the entire Stern familly.

You touched the lives of so many people with your kindness and love
for Canton. Having the J. Babe Stearn Community Center as a haven for our children was just one of the great things you did. You worked hard for us in everything you accomplished throughout your life and now you can rest peacefully with the other angels!

What would Canton be without Babe Stearn? I'm reminded of "It's a Wonderful Life" and how Bedford Falls was without George Bailey. I met Mr. Stearn as a Mitey Mite. He had such a presence. Later I served on the JBSCC Board. Babe was present at monthly meetings in his later years more often than most other Board members. God bless you, and thanks again, Babe, for everything.
