From my perspective, Carol lived an artistic life. We traveled together to art conferences; she knew all the choice art shops and current art exhibitions to visit. Her laughter filled the room. Her generous heart was a work of art. I will miss her kind words and vibrant spirit. Her stories were often laced with tales of her dear and much loved family.

Carol was so much more than a coworker to me. She was a dear friend, a mentor, a treasure. If you did not take the time to get to know, that was your loss. In addition to being an instinctively intelligent person, she was witty and quick. Her passions for teaching, her art, her drive to continue learning, and her love for her family combined to make Carol, Carol. Those of us who knew her will greatly miss her.

Mrs. Mendenhall was the first of my teachers that I can remember taking a positive interest in me. As an elementary school student she taught me to draw a rose. I probably drew that rose a thousand times. I still draw my roses that way when I doodle. She continued to be a part of my life into high school, where she helped me explore art and earn some minor accolade. The best part of it was how proud she was of me and how proud she made me feel. I am no great artist, and yet, she always made me feel like I was wonderful. She and I interacted many times after I graduated and each time she was kind and supportive, funny and positive. Mrs. Mendenhall was a wonderful lady and I will always remember her with love.

Carol and I were sweethearts for a while in high school. We lost touch after graduation but renewed our friendship at a couple of reunions over the last 5 years or so. She was still the sharp gal (intelligent, gracious, extremely friendly, aware, beautiful) that I remembered and adored. She will be missed!
