Eileen Millan

Eileen Doherty Millan, 108, a 29-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Baltimore, died of natural causes October 9 at her home in Annapolis.
She was born August 20, 1904 in Dorchester, New Brunswick. Eileen attended the Long Island School of nursing, receiving her nursing degree in 1924. She managed her husband's medical practice in Baltimore, in addition to being an apartment manager.
Eileen assisted in the first blood transfusion performed in the U.S. She was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed cooking, taking brisk walks, and was an avid reader.
Married on February 15, 1925, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lyle J. Millan III, on November 30, 1974; and her son, Dr. Lyle J. Millan IV of Annapolis. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John, Eugene, Edward, and Patrick; and her sisters, Evelyn, Pauline, and Mona, all siblings from Canada.
Eileen is survived by three grandchildren, Lyle J. Millan V of Bowie, Elizabeth Millan Schuncke of Annapolis, and Ann Sheridan Worthington Millan of Arnold; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Reid Schuncke of Annapolis; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Millan of Annapolis; and one grand-son-in-law, Michael Schuncke of Annapolis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd., Annapolis. Online condolences may be made at

Such a gracious, kind and warm person, she always made you feel welcome.
Her memories were always sharp, I will miss her recollections on the first radio she heard or car she saw
