George (Bootie) Evans Crowner, Sr., 78, of Edgewater, died suddenly of a heart attack on Dec. 13 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
George was born November 1, 1931 in Shady Side to the late James and Aurida Crowner.
He attended public school in Anne Arundel Co., and then night school for masonry skills. From 1977 to 1993 he worked as chief custodian at Deale Elementary School, while continuing to take advantage of his masonry work until retirement. He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and also a member of Joppa Lodge #94.
George was preceded in death by his parents, three children, three sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 15 years; one daughter, Joanne Coates of Shady Side; one son-in-law, Charles Coates; one step-daughter; two step-sons; one grandchild, Lieutenant Dale S. Crowner Jr. of Orange Park, Fla.; one sister, Doris Brown of Shady Side; five brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Gabrielle Crowner; three great-aunts; one god-daughter, Frances Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The wake will be held Sat., December 19 from 10-10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Shady Side. Interment at Chews Memorial Cemetery in Owensville.
