Michael Bailey Obituary

Michael Douglas Bailey CHARLOTTE - Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Jan. 23, 2014. Mike was born in Marion the son of Robert Douglas and Mildred Mangum Bailey. Born on March 30, 1953, he was a graduate of Myers Park High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College. It was there that he began his career by starting a chemical company and eventually moving into construction. Over the years, he built his company through hard work, integrity and his many talents as a skilled craftsman. In many ways, Mike was a true free spirit. He was fiercely independent, but had a generous, open heart. He was a seeker, with a mind that was never truly at rest. His natural curiosity and keen intellect lead him to ideas and solutions that often delighted him and intrigued those around him. Mike was a beautiful dreamer, a philosopher, and a tender soul. He had a wonderful, quirky way of looking at the world, a great sense of fun and appreciation for the absurd which was often revealed in his wry smile, as if he knew something that you did not. He was a loving and charming man who was not afraid to think and feel deeply. His devotion and commitment to his family was the driving force that carried him through his life. In return, he was deeply loved and cherished. Mike was also a loyal friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy; his sons Michael and Brooks; his daughters Meredith Cook (Sterling) and Elizabeth Nicholson (Ryan); his grandsons Sterling and Davis Cook, who adored their "DatDat," and soon-to-be baby Nicholson; his mother; his brother, Chuck (Dianne); and several well-loved nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.n. at Myers Park Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in HeatonHall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233, or the charity of your choice. J. B. Tallent Funeral Service is assisting the family.
