Bruce attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. We were members of the Zeta Phi Chapter, Sigma Nu fraternity from 1973-1977. I recall Bruce playing all the major sports for Sigma Nu. He was as passionate about sports; always performing at his best. I remember one fraternity football game, Bruce was playing defensive lineman. He dislocated three fingers during a play. He came out and when we suggested that he go to the hospital, he refused and went back into play; deformed fingers and all. When he came out the next play, he sat down, two guys held him down and I grabbed all three fingers, and relocated all his dislocations, then taped him and sent him back into the game. He felt no pain until after the game was over. This is still the man, and fraternity brother, I remember. Passionate, gung-ho, full of life, and competitive; with the highest of ethical and moral behavior. Will be truly missed. I was stunned to hear of his passing, while reading Bradley Hilltopics magazine. One tough man.

I shall never forget our trip to Little Rock Arkansas in a small King Air prop plane to pick up two puppies and fly them back to Chicago. Bruce was a good friend and partner and a spirited advocate who will be missed.

I just wanted to express my condolences to Bruce's family and share a few memories that I have of Bruce. Bruce and I went to high school together at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring ,Maryland before his family moved away to Chicago. Bruce was particularly close with my closest friend, Jeff Cohen, which resulted in my spending a lot of time driving around with Bruce and Jeff in Bruce's very cool silver Chevy Camaro. We were all very envious of Bruce's Camaro. Needless to say, Bruce was a charming character who was always able to extricate himself from a troubling situation smelling like a rose. ( Bruce would know exactly of the particular incident that I am referring to. )
Bruce and I both went on to become lawyers and a few years back he was kind enough to refer a case to me in Maryland. At that time I had the opportunity to catch up with him and he told me about his professional hockey playing son and his daughter who I believe was then working on the Obama campaign. He could not have been prouder of them.
I know this is a most difficult time for the family, but if they would like to hear some funny stories about Bruce in his youth, they should feel free to contact me.

To the Meckler Family,
My sincere regrets upon hearing of the death of Bruce. Although it has been several years after my retirement from the Bench, that I became associated with Bruce and the Meckler Law Firm,I find memories of that experience and his friendship very satisfying. Please accept my sympathies as a result of his passing.

Dear Marcy and Family:

So sorry to hear about Bruce. We shared an office at the State's Attorney's for a year or so at the beginning of our legal careers. He was an excellent attorney from the very start, and knew how to have a little fun as well.

My Condolences,

Don Rubin

I was so saddened by the news. Bruce was the ultimate lawyer, smarter than smart, and a strategic thinker in law and in life and in sports too! He spoke often and lovingly of his family and I offer my condolences to you all and to his law partners as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Gemma Allen, Ladden and Allen Chrtd.

Though we were not close in our lives, I love you with all of my heart and soul and always will as your sister. Mother Mona is broken hearted, beyond description. Our hearts bleed for the family , Marcy, who took such loving dear care of you for 36 years, and never left your side during this horrific illness. So few people are blessed as much as Marcy and Bruce with such a long and loving marriage. Barisa, with a special closeness with Daddy that only a daughter can know , and David, the son with whom Bruce was attached at the hip, best buddies. There are no words to describe the void in all our hearts. Due to illness of Bruce's mom , both Mom and sister Wendy cannot come and pay our final respects, but Bruce will live in our hearts forever. We wish we could be there to support you all during this time of pain and grief. May God help you through this time in your lives and the support of family and friends. Bruce's sister Wendy and mother Mona.

As an fellow attorney, I had great respect for Bruce's legal skills and practical approaches to litigatiopn, but I most enjoyed playing basketball for many years at the Union League with and against Bruce. When Bruce got that high dribble started, just off the top of the key, and eyed the basket (seeing no one else, foe or teammate), there was no stopping his drive to the hoop - poetry in motion it wasn't, but determination and grit abounded - and usually a "2" followed. Keep driving Bruce... will miss you man... GARY GRASSO
