Jerrold Basofin Obituary
Jerrold A. Basofin, age 68 of Chicago, IL. Son of the late David and Irene Basofin; survived by his fond and loving sister, Sharon Basofin; devoted and cherished lifelong friend, Geri Widdes; compassionate caregiver and friend, Victor Villan; many cousins; and a numerous, wonderful "circle of friends". Retired co-owner of Union Tysen, he was regarded as "The King of the Ticket Brokers." He was a member of several dance clubs. Jerry was recognized for his sparkling attire and inimitable style of dance which resulted in him, along with his partners, Geri Widdes and Kathleen Sauser, to win local and national competitions. He enjoyed musicals, phone conversations, good food, Fannie May Candies, playing cards and the company of good friends. Receiving will take place Tuesday, June 18, 2013 9:30am - 10:25am with funeral services 10:30am at Weinstein Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091, 847-256-5700. Entombment, Rosehill Cemetery Mausoleum, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart Association. Jerry and I both had our bar mitzvahs at Shaare Tikvah and graduated from Von Steuben together. I am grateful to the obituary writer who shared these many fascinating details about Jerry's full and amazing life. He really seemed to takes great pleasure in both his talents and friends. It's hard to ask for more.

Jerry was my first date...we were 10 years old. We went to Howie Kempler's house for a boy and girl party. He even brought me a box of candy,I will always remember that night.

I knew Jerry in High School. He was a guy that always smiled and never had a bad word for anybody. I remember he loved to dance. He was just a super great guy. So sorry to hear of his passing. Ronnie Lidskin

I have known Jerry since 5 years old. We were very close friends growing
up. At 11, we went together to Carol Blum's Valentine's party. He brought
me a box of heart chocolates. We belonged to Tower Cabana Club as teens and enjoyed many activites there. At night, there would be
dancing to the great songs of those years. We enjoyed dancing on Chicago Bandstand downtown and other memorable events. Every lady wanted to

I remember Jerry's fabulous dancing, always being amazed at what he could do. At one of the reunions, I asked Jerry to dance and it was like dancing with a rubber man, so incredible.
Geri, thank you for filling us in on his life, so filled with love, friends, work, art. Jerry was a very special person and it was a privilege to know him during his early years.
I hope he has found dancing partners, card friends, good art, and especially love and laughter wherever he is.

Jerry has been a presence in my life since we were five years old. I saw him just about every time I went back to Chicago. It saddens me to know his long fight for life has ended. He leaves so many wonderful memories to his family and vast amount of friends. My sincere condolences to Sharon,Geri,Victor and all who knew him. He will be missed.

When I called Jerry, he always made me crack up. At first I was a little afraid to ask a silly question...lol. Eventually I learned how to tease him back. If I got a chance to hear his distinctive laugh, I had a huge smile. Loved this banter with him! Big hug to you all!!

Jerry had an infectious smile and laugh and watching him dance with Geri and Kathleen made you want to tap your feet and clap your hands with joy. There is a saying attributed to Anais Nin, "Through love, through friendship, a heart lives more than one life." Jerry's heart has many more lives to live. Ron and I will miss Jerry very much. The many visits we shared together, especially in our home - the many 'traditional' holiday parties spent together with Jerry, Geri, Kathleen, Pat, Sue, Linda, Herman, Jo, Liz, Ann, et al, as well as the Halloween parties and BBQ's amongst our wonderful mutual friends - the laughter was the best with Jerry. We were blessed to have spent so many fun times together and were honored Jerry stood up to our wedding as well. We will always cherish and remember Jerry forever. Thank you Geri for introducing us to Jerry and for sharing his friendship with us throughout the years. We send our heartfelt condolences to his dear sister Sharon, longtime loyal friend Geri, dear Kimberly and her family, fun-friend Kathleen, to his very nurturing caregiver Victor and all his many friends.
