Father O´Malley was my 1st male mentor at age 18. We met when he served at St. James Catholic Church in Chicago. He aided me in my transition to Christ, giving me a New Testament entitled "Good News For Modern Man." Here it is 52 years later, having served as a pastor for 31 years and the impression he left still lingers. Thank you Lord for a true man of God.

My father was not a church goer and was despondent over the death of my mother. My parish was St. Celestine, so I thought pastor O´Malley could ease his pain. My father was confirmed and became a faithful Catholic at 88. He passed away at 89. When I told the good pastor, he commented that my father was now in heaven as he was a good man. I told him I had visited him in the hospital and the night before my mother had visited him and they would be together soon. The next day he was released and taken home by my brother. The next day (the third day if measured by Christ´s death and resurrection) my brother found him dead in bed with a smile on his face.

Father Pat was a special man and priest. When I was a young seminarian in the 50's, Pat was was a great role model. Our paths crossed several times throughout the years. His strength of character, his sense of humor, his caring and always helpful nature will be missed, but the shadow of this man will live on in memory for those who experienced his love and holiness.

Fr. O'Malley was a great inspiration to many. His scriptual perspectives that have been given to many people over the years will truly be missed. Fr. O'Malley was a great story teller. He was a blessing to us all.

I had the honor and privilege to have Fr. O'Malley as pastor at St. Celestine through my formative years and then greeted him with great excitement when he came to my home at St. Mary of the Annunciation. I was blessed to have been an altar server for him and then to watch my four girls do the same. When my son was born, we named Steven Patrick in his honor. I am very thankful that he was there for me and my family through the years and will greatly miss him, but I take comfort knowing he is finally home.

Great priest, great orator, great singing voice--too bad he couldn't be cloned! The church needs more like him. I remember when the "team" (O'Malley, Ferrigan, and Heidkamp) arrived at St James in 1972 and shortly thereafter were put to the test. Fire struck the church days before Christmas with considerable damage to the interior. Cardinal Cody wasn't enthused about rebuilding and created obstacles. The team listened to parishioners --enlisted help from neighboring IIT--and the RSM's, raised funds --and rebuilt!Pat O'Malley was very special. He will be missed!

I knew Pat for 68 years, starting in 1945 in 1st year Quigley. He was in 1F and I was next door in 1E.
He was a great man and athlete; I wasn't too good at sports but I caught a pass in the Thanksgiving morning scrub football game and our team went on to win. He was a strong man , working construction during summers and claiming 10,000 foot mountains in Colorado mas an adult (even as a senior citizen)
But besides physical strength he had great spiritual strength, caring for people and especially priests for whom he served in so many ways-ACP, NFPC,Vicar for priests, spiritual director.
I remember the short time I spent at St. Jarlath's whicj was the m,ost dilapidated parish in Chicago ; Msgr. Tom O'Brien, Dick Bell and Pat. But he was not discouraged. He fixed it up and gave it life
He helped so many people, myself included,
The angels have carried him to Paradise;let's us praise the Lord for a great, kindly and holy man

I knew Pat for 68 years starting in 1st year Quigley; he was in 1-F and I was next door in 1-E. Then 7 years at St. Mary's U. in MundeleinHe was a great man and a great athlete, claiming the 10,000 foot mountains in Colorado. I was not much of athlete but I intercepted a football pass in 1st Philosophy and our team went on to win
Before all else he was a saintly and humble man. I remember the short time I spent at St. Jarlath's, which had become the most dilapidated church in the Archdiocese but he fixed it up. Msgr. Tom O'Brien, Dick bell and Pat were great and holy men.
Pat went on to so many important duties and he succeeded in all
But most of all he was a deeply religious man and cared about people. We will miss him but the angels have carried him to Paradise

Father O'Malley touched our lives in so many special ways (as he did so many). We were fortunate to have him as a friend and a priest who our Lord worked through to guide us in our lives by patience, understanding and wit. Our Hearts go out to the entire O'Malley family to let them know that he will truly be missed.

Father raised us as kids at Maryville 1957-1962. He was a wonderful man and a priest. Remembered him over the years for his words and care during my time at Maryville all those years ago. He was a very spiritual young priest back then very compassionate which I always remembered. RIP FATHER.

Father O'Malley brought a noble, calm and wise,(and often humerous) demeanor to St. Mary's of the Annunciation- as I'm sure he always did elsewhere. His insight and teachings of Jesus' words were truly one of a kind. He will be missed here, but God's Kingdom just became richer, with his homecoming.
My condolences to his entire family.

My deepest sympathy to Father O'Malley's family. I knew and admired Father while he was pastor at St. Celestine. I will never forget how comforting it was to have him visit our family when my dad suddenly passed away. He was gentle, compassionate and caring. I'm happy to have known him.

We are so sad to hear of Father Pat's passing. He was my father's best childhood friend. The stories of their shared love of the Cubs were so sweet...going back decades. They waited and waited for a World Series win...and never gave up...maybe he can get something done from Heaven! Our family send our heartfelt condolences to all those who had the honor of knowing this wonderful, kind man who traveled a life well lived.
