I send my sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Ehret. I corresponded with him by email on several occasions and I read his tributes to fallen heroes. I had a chance to meet and talk to him at the 50th reunion of the 87th Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky. My uncle, Sgt. Paul A. deKowzan, served with him in Company L, 345th Infantry. Dr. Ehret spent several hours explaining to me the circumstances of my uncles death at the Battle for Medelsheim, Germany on December 15, 1944, a terrible day for Company L. I will always remember how deeply emotional he became as he shared some of his memories and experiences with me. I learned a lot that day about the sacrifices made by Dr. Ehret and the men of the 87th.

America has lost another hero of the Greatest Generation, but in the words of MacArthur, "Old soldiers nerver die...".
