John Kinnucan Obituary

John Phillip Kinnucan, 61, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on Saturday November 17, 2018. He was born June 9, 1957 in Lake Forest, Illinois. John loved the great outdoors. In 1975, as an adventurous teenager, he headed north to Alaska to log and work on the Alaska pipeline. He spent time in Prudhoe Bay near the Arctic Circle. He graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks with a geology degree. John was intellectually curious about everything. He could do math in his head better than most, loved words and all things literary. Ahead of his time, he studied artificial intelligence at the University of Texas-Austin in the mid-1980s. One of John's favorite movies was "A River Runs Through It," an apt metaphor for John's 61 years, at times calm and other times turbulent. He was passionate about music, food and wine and loved exploring his favorite spots in the Pacific Northwest with Catherine, Lauren and Ryan, some of the happiest days of his life. John is survived by Catherine and their children Lauren and Ryan, his brothers and sisters Paul (Fran) Kinnucan, Jr., Robert Kinnucan (Nancy), Henry (Maria) Kinnucan, Larry Kinnucan, Mary Anne Kinnucan, Ginny (Cliff) Anderson, Joe Kinnucan, Ken (Lisa) Kinnucan and Jean Kinnucan, nieces Emma, Christie, Kelley, Maggie and Eva and nephews Michael, Judson, Jaakko, Tristan, Trent, Max, Teddy and Ian. John was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Anita, brothers Jim Kinnucan and Charlie (Libby) Kinnucan and sister Patricia Louise.Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with Memorial Service to commence immediately following at 2:00 p.m. on Friday December 28, 2018 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 West Park Avenue (Rt.176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville, Illinois 60048. We met in Lake forest in about 1970 were really good friends from the start I lived on 351 East Glenwood off Greenbay RD by Old Elm RD. Between Bud Appleton and his brother Mike along with Tom Short we spent a lot of time chasing new Bass fishing spots and listening to music. John always came up with the best new places to fish. We loved our music and would mostly hang out at Bud and Mike Appleton´s house on Waverly. I reconnected with him in my mid twenties but we could never seems to get together. He was a scrapper and never back down from a challenge. Ive cherished those memories of John and the gang and those were some of the best memories of my life. Thank you John. Gone but never forgotten. Peace.

If anyone knows Bud or Mike Appleton I would love to connect with those guys talk about about Johnnie and the old times. I don´t really do face book or social media but can be reached... [email protected]

John was a college friend at UAF. He was a joy to be with the very best swing dancer, skied without gloves loved garlic and wine and long intelligent conversations. It seemed he loved the simple life and nature. His smile brought joy to many. I did not know he had passed. I regret not staying in touch. With deep sadness goodbye dear friend. May you be one with the universe another bright star up there. My sympathies and love to his family. Love ya John see you in the other side...❤
