Robert Roach Obituary

ROBERT ROACH Robert Russell Roach passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2017 at the age of 78 at his home in Chico. He was born June 24th, 1939 in Palo Alto. California to Russell and Alpha (Logan) Roach. Bob is survived by his wife Suzanne (Suzy) of 56 years; son Phillip and wife Zo‰ of Tacoma, Washington: son John and wife Nancy of Queens, New York; and brother Donald Roach and wife Kathy of Duluth, Minnesota, as well as Aunt Barbara Carr of El Cerrito, California. His grandchildren include Dante. Clementine, and Finnegan. Bob graduated from the Menlo School of Business in 1962 and then entered the US Air Force, where he exited as a captain eight years later. His tours of Duty included Vandenberg AFB; Saigon, Vietnam: Hickam AFB, Honolulu. and the Department of ROTC at San Francisco State University, where he received his MBA. He joked that he joined the Air Force to see the world and couldn't get east of Reno! Bob and Suzy moved to Chico in 1976 where they raised their two sons. They established PIP Printing in 1977 and ran their business together for 32 years. During that time Bob served as Chair of the national PIP Printing Advisory Board. Bob was a passionate duck hunter. Had he met a mallard first, he would have married it instead of Suzy! He was a dedicated fisherman. One of the high points in his life was fishing in Alaska with his dad and Walton Powell. He was a knowledgeable wine collector and an avid gardener (He loved his Craftsman tractor!). He was an informed art collector, which influ-enced his sons who are professional artists. Bob's affiliations in-cluded the Chico Rotary Club, where he was a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award and organized the Rotary Wine Tours for 10 years. He also served as chairman of The Advisory Board of the North State National Bank. Other interests included Ducks Unlim-ited, the California waterfowl Association, and the Janet Turner print Museum where he served on their board. He loved ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas! Bob and Suzy were quite social, hosting numerous parties and fundraising events at their home and garden in Chico. His legacy includes nephews Stephen, Michael, Theo, Nathan, Brian and niece Annie. Per Bob's request, in lieu of a service, a celebration of his life will be delayed until the summer. Rather than flowers, contributions would be appreciated to Ducks Unlimited, 1 Waterfowl Way, Memphis, Tennessee, 38120, the California Waterfowl Association, 1346 Blue Oaks Boulevard, Roseville, California, 95678 or the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka. Kansas 66675. Per Suzy's request, raise a glass and toast her beloved husband!

Having Dance of the Pen, Calligraphy business during the 1970-80's, I was at PIP printing and with Bob and Suzy daily.
Bob not only was a great design mentor for me, but my dear friend. When I was just starting my business, he would refer clients to me. He had a nickname for me, he called me "The Leprechaun", this was because of all the St. Paddy's Day Shenanigans I played on Jim Lynch throughout the years.
Bob and Suzy were a true team, devoted not only to each other, but great humanitarians, tireless volenteers in our Chico Community. Bob was my hero, I will miss him. My love to you Suzy, Philip and John and extended families.

Bob was my first real boss, and father figure. I worked for both Bob and Suzy for about 9 years right out of high school. To this day I use some of the things Bob taught me. Don't come to me with a problem, unless you have idea of a solution. , Skeeter part of your job is to make sure that I don't make mistakes that will cost me money. I use this last one often when I talk to managers that I think are making mistakes. Bob taught me it is alright to argue with my boss if I was sure I was right. Bob and Suzy kept me as an employee when it was recommended to let me go, but they knew I was going thru some tuff times and knew I would pull thru. Suzy you have no idea how often you and Bob are in my thoughts. You both helped me grow into the man I am today and the father I saw modeled by Bob

It is hard to put into words the level of sadness felt when someone who has impacted so many is no longer among us. Respectful condolences. May he be in God's memory.

I did business with Suzie and Bob when I ran an automotive events company. They were the most delightful couple to work with and totally trustworthy and fun to be around. After all those years of marriage and the adventures they shared, I am sure Suzie will be very sad for a long time. It is very difficult to lose a best friend and spouse. Prayers go out to the entire family as Barbara and I remember with happiness our time around this outstanding couple.
