Richard Lucero Obituary

Richard Librado Lucero, 71, passed away April 6, 2020. A lifetime Pueblo-an, he was born Nov. 10, 1948, to Librado and Mary Lucero who preceded him in death along with brother and sister-in-law, Andres and Teresa Lucero; father-in-law, Salvador Gallegos; and godson, Michael Pentaude. Richard graduated from Central High School in 1966. He then was an SP4 in the U.S. Army with the following awards and commendations: the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Commendation Medal. He graduated from Southern Colorado State College in 1976, and was a strong supporter of CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves football. Richard was a very active member of Our Lady of the Meadows Parish, where he was a lector, a hospitality min-ister, RCIA leader and Parish Council member. He served on the Board of Directors for the Joni Fair Sangre de Cristo Hospice. He also was on the National Hispanic Institute Southern Colo-rado Community Leadership Council. He had quite the green thumb, and loved his plants and trees. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. Most of all, he loved his time spent with his family. Richard leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Doris (Gall-egos) Lucero; daughters, Sara (Dennis) Moore and JoAnn (Jeff) Waldrop; son, Johnny Lucero; grandchildren, Reed Moore, Jacob Waldrop, and Jemma Waldrop; sib-lings, Gilbert (Sarah) Lu-cero, Connie (John) Luc-ero-Tracy, Betty (Dave) Turner, Lucy (John) Trujillo, Ruth (Eppie) Martinez, Grace (Don) Reigh, Gary Lucero and Beverly (Dominic) Lu-cero; mother-in-law, Hilda Gallegos; sister-in-law, Terri (Joe) Musso; brother-in-law, Salvy (Geri) Gallegos; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Due to Covid-19 gathering restrictions, a Mass will be held at a later date.
