Margaret COLSON Obituary

COLSON

Margaret Louise Hammond "Maggie" Colson, of Williamstown, departed her body Tuesday, November 1 at St. Elizabeth Edgewood at the age of 77. Mrs. Colson was born August 12, 1934 in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Kenneth Hammond and Wilena Jones Hammond Petrie. She was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church and insisted, "If you really want to find happiness in life, go to church on Sunday." As a child, she fondly spent time on roller skates while navigating the twists and turns of Pike St. in Covington, KY. Later, amidst high school studies in Mason KY, she made her mark as a devoted cheerleader, and was recognized with a medal of honor for her artwork contributions. She married her high school sweetheart soon after he returned from Air Force active duty during the Korean War, and later became a devoted mother. In middle-age, Margaret found her place as an artist at the Cincinnati Art Academy while attending evening, studio classes for four years. There, she came into her own… The experience inspired and excited her while she built confidence in her capabilities. Margaret said that she would forever be indebted to the CAA for the wonderful learning opportunities, and the respect shown by her talented professors. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service, having spent many hours painstakingly tracking data on "key-punch" cards, long before the age of computers, and later, serving as a clerk. Before retirement, she was honored by being asked to paint the portrait of the national commissioner of the Internal Revenue, featured in the treasury building in Washington, D.C. Aside from family and loved ones, her two most-favorite interests were "art" and "religion" she said, "because they are both lifetime learning experiences." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Harry "Ricky" Colson and by her cherished brother William Joseph Petrie. Mrs. Colson leaves to mourn her passing a son, Anthony Kamren Colson of Williamstown, KY and her sister Jacqueline Gardner of Dry Ridge, KY. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 5 in the chapel of the McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth, KY with Rev. Susan Quinn-Bryan officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 pm. Burial will be in the Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery, Corinth. Mrs. Colson's family is especially grateful for those around them who shared a connection of heartfelt friendship with Maggie during her lifetime. The joys you made made with her, and the love, kindness and generosity of spirit you showed, made the difference along her way of life, and did not go unnoticed. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
