Benjamin NORDMEYER Obituary

NORDMEYER

Benjamin Joseph Nordmeyer, 17, beloved son of John R. and Mary Lynne Birck Nordmeyer, adored grandson of Jean (George) Birck and John and Ruth Nordmeyer. A nephew and cousin to many, Ben was a fun-loving, steadfast friend to many more. Ben loved school, from his preschool days at Country Hills Montessori to the eleven years he spent at The Seven Hills School (Lotspeich, Middle, and Upper). "Nordy" was as comfortable at the gym working on his "six pack abs" as he was in the kitchen baking red velvet cakes for friends' birthdays as he was singing in the school chorus. Ben played soccer, which he termed "fall training for the only sport that mattered," baseball. Ben enjoyed many accomplishments on the field with his pitching coach father beside him, his mother keeping score and cheering from the bleachers. Ben loved pitching, particularly the mental aspect, and was especially partial to his cutter. He was happy to catch for Seven Hills his freshman year because he thought that it made him a better pitcher. The home run ball he hit in Cooperstown will be forever on the mantle. As much as he loved the game, Ben loved his teammates with whom he played over the years more. None had a more prominent place in his heart than The Backstop Bats. Ben's affinity with animals and his love of the outdoors were unmatched. At an early age, he knew every animal at the Cincinnati Zoo not only by its species but its nickname. With Ben, one hour at the zoo meant seeing three or four animals. His summers were filled with many hours in the company of other "nature nerds" at The Cincinnati Nature Center where he attended summer camps and eventually became a Counselor-in-Training. Ben would joke that if the camp kids got restless, Bill or Jason would dispatch him to the woods "to find a snake or lizard or something to liven things up." In gratitude for the wonderful experiences and friendships which enriched Ben's very full life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to The Seven Hills School, The Cincinnati Nature Center, and The Cincinnati Zoo. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 24th at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home, 177 W. Main St., Amelia, Ohio from 4-8 p.m. A Mass in celebration of Ben's life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25th at St. Francis de Sales Church, 1600 Madison Road, Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m. (doors will open at 6:30 p.m.).

Mr and Mrs Nordmeyer,

It was an honor and a pleasure to have worked with your son as both a camper and a "Counselor in Training" at the Cincinnati Nature Center. He was funny and creative, and his love of nature and the outdoors was contagious. He truly was a fine young man. My deepest sympathies for your loss.

Ben is in my thoughts and prayers everyday. He has left an everlasting mark on my life along with every other life in the Seven Hills community. He was not only athletic, but he was there for me and just about everyone whenever you needed anything, even just the simplest hug to brighten up your day. Thoughts, prayers, and love to you both and the rest of your family.

Ben, what a fun-loving and responsible counselor-in-training! I saw you becoming a great summer camp counselor. The counselors knew we could trust you to keep the fun going by playing a quick game with the campers, or whatever was needed in those fast-paced summers. You will be greatly missed at CNC and anywhere else you shared your wonderful talents.

November 24, 2014

Dear Mary Lynne and John,
There are no words to convey our sorrow at the loss of such a wonderful young man. One of the many qualities which made Ben so special was his generous heart which opened him up to new friendships. From the day Bennett transferred to Seven Hills in eighth grade, we knew that "Nordy" was someone whose character he respected and whose friendship he treasured. Please know that Ben's positive influence on Bennett and his friends and classmates will live on forever. We pray for comfort and peace for your family.

Dear John and Mary Lynne,
Our heart is heavy, and we simply cannot express just how deeply saddened we are by the loss of such a wonderful young man. The whole community shares in your loss. Yet you have so much to be proud of, and your loss is Heaven's gain. We so enjoyed watching Ben play baseball while Jamie was with the Bats, and it was honor getting to know both of you. Truly, ‘Nordy' was a great athlete, and even a greater person on and off the field.
We pray for your peace and comfort in this difficult time. If there is anything we can do to support you, either now or further down the road, just let us know….lean on your friends and brothers as much as possible.
We love you, and we will forever love Benjamin.
God Bless You.

Dear John and Mary Lynne~

There are no words that could express how terribly saddened we are for the loss of your beloved son, Ben. He was a wonderful young man, a friend to all, and a champion both on and off the field. His kindness to our son, Drew, and his friendship with our daughter, Sydney, was and is such a positive influence in their lives. They were fortunate to have known him and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do for you at this time or in the coming days. While nothing can diminish the pain and sadness of your loss, we hope you will find comfort in knowing how much Ben was loved.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Dear Mary Lynne and John,

There are no words which can begin to express the depth of our sadness at the loss of such a wonderful young man. We watched Ben grow from a little boy into a compassionate and caring young adult, and were fortunate to witness firsthand the joy he brought to the lives of those he knew, from his many school friends to the children he touched through camps at the Nature Center. We hope it will be some measure of solace to know that Ben will always be thought of as a kind and generous soul who made the world a brighter place. With love and prayers, Cindy, Bob and Jeff Welch

Mr and Mrs Nordmeyer,
My prayers are with you. I was a CIT with Ben at Long Branch for two years and he was always someone that I admired and respected. He was always radiating positivity and making all of our days even better. He was someone that I tried to be like everyday that I worked with him. He was a real mentor for me and I believe that he helped me grow and become a better person. I was honored to have met him and you all will be in my thoughts and prayers. The entire CCDS soccer team sends their condolences to your family and we are all thinking of you.

Dear Mary Lynne and John,
We offer our deepest condolences to you. We were honored to know Ben and grateful to have him a part of our son, Matthew Clayton's life. These two boys shared a passion for baseball that was unbelievable. One of my greatest joys was to watch Matthew and Ben processing and strategizing the mental plays of the game together and independently. Matthew enjoyed Ben's company on and off the field. He always respected him and followed his leadership. Your son was a tremendous inspiration to many of our boys. We are grateful for his life and thankful for your impact you made on him. The two of you have been our children's biggest supporters on the sidelines, please know how much we appreciate your efforts and the wonderful example you have been to all of us. We will always remember Ben as one of the most upstanding young men that made our son a better person. God bless!

Mary Lynne and John, there are no words that will comfort at such a sad and difficult time. I enjoyed talking baseball with Ben when he and John would be walking the dogs or when they were in our backyard in the batting cage hitting all of those buckets of baseballs. I remember how proud he was of his homerun at Cooperstown. I will miss coming home from work and seeing them throwing in the street or him cutting the grass. There will be a void in the neighborhood which pales in comparison I'm certain. My prayers are that God will hold you both in His loving arms and ease the heartache daily.

Dear John & Mary Lynne,

We can find no words to really express our sorrow for your loss - a loss in which so many share.

It has been an honor to get to know Ben. He was always respectful, courteous and gentlemanly to our girls, and such a strong presence in their lives. He will be sorely missed.

May you be comforted with the knowledge that Ben was loved by many.

Our love, support and prayers go out to you now and in days to come.
